It took him three months. Three months since I stepped down from NRBC and he's created a vacancy - and wormed his way into it.

From the broom trade he gets to Quidditch and from Quidditch it's a short hop to labour and all manner of commerce.

Blast.

Feared this would happen when Our Lord insisted

To make matters worse, this business with young Pott Marvolo has Our Lord on a tear. Luckily His anger remains directed more toward Minerva than to me but with that conniving, wheedling dog drawing nearer and nearer His throne, shall require careful steps to ensure he cannot contrive a reason to keep me from Court.

There's already talk of some initiative to bring camp administration under one larger umbrella, centralise the lot. Have heard my name mentioned more than once and deflected unofficial nomination, claiming matters of importance to the state.

But. Fudge has been acting oddly lately. Will get to the bottom of that this week.

Still - hope your project is going better than mine at the moment. Trust you realise that much of the deterioration began when you undertook your current task; suggestions on how to maintain your connexions and strengthen the old guard welcome, particularly if, as suspected, you cannot intervene directly to maintain the alliances already formed over this matter.

Been thinking about our conversation yesterday. Should be interested to see what evidence you think this young assistant may have gleaned from her employer. Come in later this week or early next and we can review it.

Glad to hear that you have started seeing someone new. Sure that Miss Gilmour is superiour to Miss Kirke in every respect. Trust that your newer responsibilities are more conducive to a relationship - both for her and for you. Still, as you know, it is wise to ensure that you meet your obligations and set limits if necessary to ensure that you are able to manage a partner's expectations on your time. Have also found it advantageous to maintain some independence even from one with whom one is intimately involved. Mrs Malfoy and I, for example, or Mr and Auror Lestrange - we all of us value a certain measure of privacy and most markedly respect boundaries with one another to preserve our own domestic bliss.

But that is a discussion for later, once perhaps you have discovered the right mate. You are still of an age where it is more important to test compatibility with many partners than to settle too quickly on one. Not that one pays much attention to these things, but heard that you and Miss Robins had also escorted one another on occasion. Not to your liking, then? But then I hear from Fudge that she has many admirers. Before a few weeks ago, still thought she and Mr Cameron were an item. Impossible to care, at any rate: Find the landscape changes far too quickly to bother about it.

Thinking, too, about your assessment of Weasley. You had not previously told me of your conversation with him last summer, regarding the measures to which we must sometimes resort when addressing difficult situations and people clamouring for calendar time. Seems he did take the lessons to heart - at least, to some extent. Certainly has cultivated some applications better than others. Did I tell you he used his association with me to gain admittance to Mrs Malfoy's gardens when he was about to be turned away? Something about the queue being over-long and the security personnel unwilling to admit more than a certain number at a time. Wrote to thank me and Mrs Malfoy for our hospitality afterward. Resourcefulness like that is promising. Too bad his parents will always be an embarrassment to him. But then, you know the eldest, Bill, correct? He has certainly done his best to rise above his father's reputation.

In any event, must do something about Hooper. Offering him to Nagini looks more and more like a viable option.

Have you an interest in any of the Board appointments we discussed? Shall be stepping down from Nimbus and Presto, certainly, by end of summer. Likely Obscurus as well, though Charles is adamant that I stay. Should like to give up WWN but currently impossible. Naturally the final decision would rest with the remaining committee but a solid recommendation would rather tip the balance, I should expect. And your request to come to Court: Not a good time at present, as I said. But perhaps by year's end there will be an occasion to make sure you are properly introduced. Meanwhile you might tell Hooper to arrange drinks at the Elysian for the two of us - next month? - and there I can introduce you socially to warlocks of your acquaintance while clerking for me. The distinction shall not be lost on them.

Have just come from Court.

It is Our Lord's wish that I ... re-arrange my time to focus my efforts on relations with France, control of the camps, assisting in the capture of DogStar operatives and other sundry pursuits which He deems more ... suitable.

Shall need to meet with the following, in person, in private - sometime in the next month and absolutely before we are less than one month from end of quarter:

Nolan Tenebridge
Cumulus Cuthbert
Charles Pennifold
Ephraim Clarriker

No need to tell them the purpose of the meetings for now. Should not require saying but schedule around current Board meetings and of course, leave the end of July free.

Also, kindly see to it that the calendar is cleared on Wednesday (with the exception of Court).

I note that you've asked for time week after next. Surprised you bothered; you ought to realise it is out of the question. Dideron's delegation arrives on the 21st and will wish to inspect the proposed location the following day. Trust you have co-ordinated with International Wizardry on their accommodations in New London and at the stadium site? Have you ensured that the nearby camp has sufficient labourers on tap to build, presuming all goes as planned? Make sure I have time booked with Selwyn to review the details on Monday, if you please. Any word on whether the English boy will be coming?

Oh - and send a bottle of brandy out to Le'Strange Hill with my compliments, will you? Gather my brother-in-law has been pressed of late but is making significant progress on his analysis of the DogStar prisoners' artifacts. (So much so that my wife has offered our hospitality to his inquisitive and mobile son.) Suspect the fortification will induce him to exhibit greater insights.

Finally. Interested in your explanation for Minister Fudge's recalcitrance yesterday morning. Asked after him to-day and learned that you were incorrect: Clearly there is some personal slight he has perceived. Have contained the situation for the time being. If you value your employment you would do well to discover the true cause and bring it to me before he and I next meet.

Finally getting to the day's correspondence.

Priority for to-morrow must be the delivery of the Wizengamot verdicts for Our Lord's signature. Broome expects them as soon as you have the verification from the court clerk. Kindly go in person to Rigg for his initialed copies, take them directly to Buckingham and wait for them so you can return them to Thicknesse's office. Before noon, if you please, as the sentences will need to be dispatched to Azkaban before sunset. Trust I do not need to explain the urgency.

Also, Charles said he sent his man over with two manuscripts. Why did you say nothing? I had one ready to go back to him; see to it that he receives it to-morrow as well.

Not sure what Bobolis wants but if it's anything about Kensington, surely he has his own source in the designer, being a friend of his. There's nothing to photograph yet and I would rather he not pester Narcissa. Tell him we will consider allowing him to tour the grounds once they are in flower and the installations complete.

What's this from Cuthbert? Explain.

Yes, I'll meet with Gibson. No to Umbridge, absolutely - but tell her perhaps next month (do not schedule). Offer Scrimgeour an early meeting - 7:00 if necessary, though not before Tuesday next. Campbell ... yes, but don't trouble if you need to book him out a month or more. Move nothing to accommodate him; can guarantee there will be no rush. Massopust? Not Warrington? Hm. Well, all right. Half an hour - and he comes here, not his office. Regrets for the Clarriker invitation; regrets for the Higgses; accept Drumgoole and Spinx, per Narcissa. Must remember to arrange accommodations for that week-end as well. Yes to Sedgwick, before this month's Governors' meeting, so if you need to shift something that's all right. No more than half an hour, however. Oh, and sometime in the next week, book me in at Lobb's. I've a left boot that is too tight. Also I'll need a table with a view at Portico on Thursday next, for about twenty.

Nolan Tenebridge visited the house this week-end, with a copy of the new Weird Sisters album. I've sent it along to Draco and Harry.

Nolan has been a friend of the family as long as I can remember. He and my father attended Hogwarts around the same time. In my final year, he helped arrange for Ari, Tony, and myself, along with Ludo Bagman and several young ladies of our acquaintance to attend a Warlocks concert over Christmas holidays, and to go backstage afterward. I think Serena and Ari may have got engaged that same evening, she was so impressed by meeting Lehonn, Clancy, Sean, and Art.

For a man his age, Nolan is looking extraordinarily well. Though I think the visit--and the album copy--have more to do with an invitation to join the Board of Presto Records than nostalgia on his part. We've had a share in the company for some time; I suppose it's natural to sit on the Board at some point.

Presto's Board introduces yet another complexity to the agenda ... I confess I'm not certain that I have the time. I'm sure Draco would appreciate the continued copies, but honestly, it's simple enough to get those.

Speaking of Boards, however, I must contact Cumulus first thing tomorrow. Harry Marvolo has been appointed Seeker for Slytherin, and after consulting with Horace Slughorn, the Lord Protector has given his son's placement on the team his blessing. The NRBC should be more than pleased for Harry to fly one of their brooms in his matches.

On that note ... the Lord Protector has asked me to pay a visit to Hogwarts in light of all the disturbing reports generated by the Journal Project. Headmistress McGonagall has been providing adequate guidance in the matter of the Mudbloods' service, but the intermingling of the servant caste with the students has produced some side effects that are not altogether desirable. I am to see for myself how the students are reacting to the constant exposure and report my findings.

With that in mind, Minerva, please provide Crispin with the schedule of the Slytherin matches for the year, so that he can be sure to put them on my agenda and the Lord Protector's. And kindly arrange for Harry and Draco to join me for tea this Wednesday. I shall confirm with Crispin in the morning and have him send you an owl. Narcissa may wish to join us as well.
