alt_lucius: (RoughDay)
Weasley, meet me in the office in two hours.

Much to explain but in brief:

-As you know, the Ministry's archive of Private Messages was destroyed; thus we have, for the time being at least, total privacy from any who might try to interfere.

-Evidence against Draco strongly suggests there is more to the accusation than libel. Still attempting to clear his name but it is now apparent that he will need to present himself to do so.

-Convinced Our Lord to offer a temporary reprieve, if Draco does return. However, it is still possible that he is being held against his will and will not be able to return within the window extended by Our Lord's beneficence.

-Am drafting notice for the Prophet to offer reward for information leading to Draco's release or return. Weasley, you will need assistance screening replies. Hire someone.

-Cancel after-noon appointments to-mor -

Oh, blast. Will cancel after-noon myself.

About to leave for Bode meeting ....

Think you might wish to come along. May prove educational for you. Experience, if nothing else.

Shall be ready in five minutes.
alt_lucius: (Smiling)
Plans proceeding at anticipated pace.

Beginning next Tuesday and going forward, replace three o'clock tea with AB. Here for now; do not wish a publicly affirmed reconciliation quite yet.

Also, obtain guest list for Lestrange party to-morrow night. The Razzer ought to be able to provide.

Next, need time with Rookwood, Bode and Bode's assistant early next week. Helpful if it is before Minister's visit to Cornwall (co-ordinate with Mavis Sewell to find out who his acting undersecretary will be; have it on good authority that Miss Robins has left the Ministry).

Next, understand young Avery was here this morning during my meeting with Fudge. Give him fifteen minutes to-morrow, whenever you can fit them in. If Ursula calls you may let her know how to find me.

Do not anticipate returning this after-noon.
alt_lucius: (HangOn)
Slight change of plan. AN had news via fire. Bring in UA at earliest. Use NM's stationery on blotter; tell her J may be in danger, that will set her running.

May well be true. We shall see.

Note that the report on railway disturbances failed to mention impact of Oct. flares on ironwork. See if you can find Bode and get a revised copy before Court on Friday.

Also, contact Elysian and change my time for Friday - need to get in earlier, before 7 if poss. In fact, find out when BC is running course and overlap his time by about 15 minutes.

And tell Peale if he wants to see me to-morrow it must be between half-one and two.

May have more notes by morning.
alt_lucius: (Shadowed)
SR sent awaited signal. Send packet no. two to Prophet via anon. post owl.

Also. Had news from CF which plays into plans. Take packet no. three from blotter to his ofc. tomorrow. See that RR sees you deliver same but do not give it directly to her, use one of the other girls.

Oh, and see if you can find out AB's schedule for month.

And. W/in week, invite UA to lunch. Will provide alternate stationery for same.

That's all for now, except to let me know to-morrow when you next plan to meet your brother. May have information for you to slip into conversation; from there, trust he will carry to CM2.
alt_lucius: (Curtain)
Shall not be returning to St James' house this after-noon. However, wished to let you know that you have been selected - personally, by Our Lord - for a special task.

It seems He has arranged a rather important contest at Hogwarts this term. He has demanded decided that you shall act as liaison between the judges He has named at Hogwarts and Himself. You are to receive reports on the competitors' conduct, compile them and present them to Him at regular intervals. I am given to understand that young Marvolo shall be the chief arbiter but there are others whom He has entrusted to inform Him of the progress of His potential acolytes.

No doubt you recognise the signal honour His regard implies. Of course, anything He should require of you is to take precedence, even over my own affairs. However, should it be necessary - that is, should you find it ... impossible ... to maintain your duties in my service - then I expect you shall undertake the necessary steps to procure an assistant who can insure that the business of my household - and the realm, indeed - may continue apace.

Broome will contact you with the details of your audiences with Our Lord and what sorts of information He wishes you to distill. Your rĂ´le in this may in fact be the crucible you have been seeking to prove your worth, alongside those young hopefuls Our Lord now favours with His consideration.

Congratulations, young man. See that you do nothing to disgrace yourself - or me.
alt_lucius: (Unimpressed)
There are far too many baskets and boxes littering the front parlour. Take what you like - only see to it that the elf removes to the pantry anything you do not claim.

Have been meaning to ask if you intend to take any time away this holiday, particularly this coming Friday and Saturday. Recognise that the days may have greater significance this year.

Naturally, if you wish to spend the day in your own way, would not think of stopping you. However, should you have no other plans, might have an invitation which could interest you.

Besides this week-end, there are a number of other parties which Mrs Malfoy and I simply cannot attend and, as with Crabbe's, we ought to send some representation. Come in when you have a moment and we may look through the list.
alt_lucius: (1000YdStare)
Weasley,

Forgot to mention as I was leaving: You recall the Crabbes' Christmas party is this evening. We had accepted but earlier this after-noon Mrs Malfoy changed her mind.

Dimly recall that Caesar particularly wished to speak to me to-night. How do you fancy going in my stead and conveying my regrets?

If they give you any trouble at the entrance, simply tell them I sent you as Mrs Malfoy has a headache - and if he can't tell you what it's about, then offer to find a time on the books this week.

You might as well stay and enjoy yourself once you've completed the errand.

Unless you've other plans tonight?
alt_lucius: (Queue2)
Need you on standby - there has been a disturbance at Saltash which is apparently proving resistant to peacekeeping forces.

May need you to re-arrange meetings to-morrow. Particularly morning meetings.
alt_lucius: (Enraged)
Weasley.

Have just come from Magical Commerce. (Kindly see to it that the meeting returns to its normal time next month; cannot re-arrange the rest of the timetable every Monday. Remind Macmillan before it happens again.)

Is it possible - could it be remotely conceivable - that those imbecilic brothers of yours are attempting to obtain premises for the purpose of embarking on some sort of business venture?

No. It could not. Because if it were, surely you would have known about it. And had you known, you would of course have mentioned it to your employer, knowing that he sits on the committee for Magical Commerce. Is that not correct?

And yet. The committee to-day reviewed papers submitted by Messrs Fred and George Weasley in request of a licence for commercial enterprise, to wit: One shopfront with full storage and laboratory, living space included.

Shall be returning after supper and need to know the progress toward the camp inspections.

Meanwhile, you had best think of a reason you were unable to save me the embarrassment of being unprepared for this ... revelation. And you had better hope that their partner's name on some of the parchments was one of your brothers' infamous practical jokes. Miss Parkinson has no intention of backing them. Baddock would have stopped it, if nothing else. Falsifying permit applications is no joke, as they will learn shortly - despite whatever ridiculous products they propose to manufacture. However clever they may think they are, if their inventions are as uproariously un-funny as their fraud, their 'business' is sure to fail within weeks. Possibly days.
alt_lucius: (Angry)
What have we said about not interrupting when I am in Court?

Luckily, had a moment when I could step away - only to find there were also urgent messages from Crispin, Ned and Ptolemy.

What the hell's going on?
alt_lucius: (1000YdStare)
Heads-up.

Corax Mulciber instructed by Our Lord to oversee Protectorate Affairs.

Likely he's enlisting Bill Weasley as aide. That could work to advantage; Weasley will have a window to their movements.

Still. Not sure of the full implications of this development.

Crispin, alert Rookwood if you will - quietly. Barty, shall arrange lunch or drinks alone with Cadmus and Ari sometime this week. See what you can learn from Yaxley.
alt_lucius: (Annoyed)
First priority: Permanent staff for Private Message monitoring. No use giving anyone else a chance to infiltrate. Work with Crispin and Pennifold. Leave Massopust to Crispin for now.

Trust you now understand why it was not an opportune time to press for entry. What happened to Higgs could have happened to you.

After-noon to-day is far too busy; reschedule half the appointments. Leave at least 30 minutes between each.

Have list of additional meetings needed in the next week. Keep 30-min intervals through Wednesday.

Do not bring tea this morning. Send elf.
alt_lucius: (Talk-to-the-Hair)
Between appts. No need to reply.

Reserve private room Monteith 6 PM. Confirm DS office (MD clerk). Topic: Personal.

Know you are hearing rumours of many elevations to Council among your peers or age-mates.

Don't get any ideas. We have discussed this before and you know my opinions on your readiness. Continue as you have been and there is every indication that the proper introductions shall present themselves at appropriate moments. On that note, however, inform me immediately should someone approach you, particularly if it is not someone well-known to you.

Send copy of remarks from Fudge's state of Protectorate address to me no later than half-eleven. Particularly the mark-up section on self-sufficient manufacturing and muggle containment. Wish to review before luncheon; meeting with Dunstan and Allenham moved to half-one.

Also, find out when Rookwood's next avail. And whether the following people are in DoM to-day: Bale, Covington, Croaker, Morlock, Sinistra. Discreetly.
alt_lucius: (Queue2)
Got your message from Healer Acton's assistant. The meeting at St Mungo's ran right over luncheon and required going straight to Court.

Presume you and Miss Clearwater were coming to the Ministry this after-noon, at any rate? Simply bring whatever it is you'd wanted me to review there and we can take care of it whilst others queue for the punch bowl.

Our Lord speaks at four o'clock so, let us say we shall meet by half-two?
alt_lucius: (Unimpressed)
Your message's timing could not have been better. Cannot abide Madama Butterfly but it's one of Narcissa's favourites (though will say it is diverting to see the interpretation of a muggleborn Butterfly). Perfect excuse to step outside to the bar.

Yes, see no reason to cancel lunch on the 15th (my apologies, again, for last month). But in advance of our meeting, would be most grateful if you could look into the deed history and provenance on several addresses obtained from Miss Blishwick - she continues to be an excellent source of information, if nothing yet has led to concrete evidence against Maule. Am forwarding an owl with the pertinent locations.

Regarding Saturday's invitation from Fleet, unfortunately, have had additional conflict arise and must decline. Do your best to assure him it is as much business as pleasure. Could send Weasley if you think some representation necessary, however, trust you to provide much better account of my absence than his presence would bring about.

Speaking of Weasley, you may wish to counsel him on his current ... domestic arrangement. He has been somewhat distracted by it of late. Confess that I had my doubts, for all that I supported his removal from that hovel his parents call a home. New London agrees with him; his particular living arrangements, I fear, may not. Have not wished to pry, as you know I pride myself on allowing him, as you, freedom to make decisions fitting an adult who needs no one to tell him what is best. However, the question of balance is, always, one we must wrestle at all times.

Pleased you found the introduction to Glozeman useful. He is a particular friend of Glendower's (the elder); see if you can parlay the one to bring you near the other. While the son is an utter fool, the father has ... protections ... which may prove valuable in time. (And of course, anything they can be brought to say about Strangeweale or Caldwell - particularly as it relates to whatever Dolores' plans are - would be most appreciated.)

By the way. Heard from Ned that you have been by his desk more than once to see if Barty has given him extra tickets to Puddlemere that he can't use; don't know if I mentioned that Cuthbert continues to send tickets on a regular basis and Weasley has little interest. Feel free to contact him if you're of a mind to go and Ned is not forthcoming.

As for Antonin Nikolaevich, rest assured, when the opportunity arises, shall arrange introduction. His time in New London is currently extremely limited, but even if there is no prior engagement which affords the occasion, he'll naturally attend our Christmas party, so it will come about, sooner or later.

Trust otherwise you are keeping well and look forward to seeing you, particularly since last month's meeting was irretrievably jostled.
alt_lucius: (Skeptical)
Timetable changes for to-morrow and Friday:

Inspection tour of Tedford to-morrow morning, urgent. See if Fudge can move to afternoon. Contact the Elysian and change Friday morning's duelling course booking to earlier: 6:00 or 7:00 is fine. Not later than 8 o'clock. Inform Travers, Mulciber and Glendower of the new time, when you have it. (Yes, Glendower - the younger, if you please.)

Also add in meeting Friday at 10:00 o'clock: Crouch, Travers, Rowle. Under no circumstances confirm with Rowle's assistant - go through him directly for his calendar. Book one of the cafes near the Ministry so they can step out without attracting notice.

Will be in Porlock and Preston rest of day, up until Court this afternoon. Contact camp administrators to arrange entry parchment for Ms Blishwick as well; others in the party all ought to have the proper credentials already.

Need first avail. with Spencer-Wells and Dominic.

Oh, and - there's a short list of engagements requiring someone to represent yet be silent. Add to your books.
alt_lucius: (TskTsk)
Rhom,

Think it would be elucidating to hear Miss Blishwick's information on the use of mudbloods in public works projects. She has extensive notes regarding infrastructure projects which MLE believes were or may have been infiltrated by DogStar; though the organisation has been routed, it is possible that vestiges remain within the numbers of labourers assigned to various bridges, piers, buildings and reclamation areas under the control of the Committee.

Have asked Miss Blishwick to prepare a presentation for our meeting next week. Had Weasley check the agenda; suggest we table item three until July's meeting; there shall be plenty of time for New London's holiday celebrations or discussion of next winter's Frost Faire over the summer. The question of safety is paramount and must take precedence. Sure you agree.

Dunstan can contact her if necessary for any copies of material or notes to distribute to the Committee. Weasley has a set of her notes as well, if you wish to review them prior to Tuesday.
alt_lucius: (Smiling)
Mrs Malfoy and I extend our deepest gratitude to all who have either made donations this season or sent us their personal tokens of esteem. Know that we appreciate every gesture made to express the feelings of loyalty, dedication and industry that permeate Our Lord's citizenry.

Our congratulations, of course, go to Mr and Mrs Campbell on their new arrival. Unfortunately with the New Year's celebrations at Buckingham, it is unlikely we shall be able to accept your kind invitation to his naming ceremony. Rest assured our gift is on its way, however.

Have had a day or two to catch our breath among all the whirl of social obligations and for once, am fairly relieved that the week betwixt Christmas and New Year's is generally quiet. Have needed it after the surprises this holiday brought! (Had not planned, for example, to spend part of Christmas Day in firechat with the Minister of Magic for France. Nor to be comforting my sister on the sudden - but necessary - departure of her husband on Christmas Eve.)

Mr Finch-Fletchley, trust you are recovering well. On behalf of the Governors, allow me to extend our sincere regrets that you met with calamity on Hogwarts' grounds, even if, as it now appears, no Hogwarts students were implicated in your misfortune.

Was pulled into a meeting to-day regarding a feared reduction in the interest rates offered by Gringott's on certain types of vaults. Reminded how long it has been since I have negotiated with goblins. Necessitated another international correspondence, this time with Egypt, scheduled later this week.

Draco, good to talk to you as always. We missed you and your cousins at Blackmoor Park this year. And to you and Pansy, again: Congratulations. Nolan tells me Tintagel is doing very well with the song and it is already much-requested on the wireless.

Weasley, have a few notes for you for to-morrow's business at Court. Kindly attend to it first thing, if you please.
