Apr. 10th, 2014 12:49 amSlight change of plan. AN had news via fire. Bring in UA at earliest. Use NM's stationery on blotter; tell her J may be in danger, that will set her running.
May well be true. We shall see.
Note that the report on railway disturbances failed to mention impact of Oct. flares on ironwork. See if you can find Bode and get a revised copy before Court on Friday.
Also, contact Elysian and change my time for Friday - need to get in earlier, before 7 if poss. In fact, find out when BC is running course and overlap his time by about 15 minutes.
And tell Peale if he wants to see me to-morrow it must be between half-one and two.
May have more notes by morning.

Mar. 20th, 2014 08:47 pmArrived Durness, about two and a half hours ago. Bode insistent we go straight to the site while he ran tests on the stone. Nothing conclusive as yet.
Likely heading to St David's in the morning before returning to New London. Our Lord will wish an update at Court.
(Interesting to note that when things go wrong, many who might otherwise have sneered default to their previous wont - looking for someone to hide behind, doubtless, but nonetheless amusing to watch.)
Now to the apparently impossible task of finding a decent meal in this wasteland.

Jun. 29th, 2013 11:33 pmBeen meaning to tell you both: believe Thursday went well. Cadmus seemed to understand the concerns and agreed his brother can be impulsive. He had a number of disparaging remarks regarding the way Corax has behaved this week. 'An erumpent with an extra horn exploding' was how he put it.
Discussed the many times Corax made himself a nuisance in school - and Cadmus himself related a few anecdotes from the year following their brother Julius' death, when he and Corax nearly came to wands-point over disagreements regarding the estate.
We ended with his assurance that he can influence Corax to see reason.
Now, regarding the activities in DoM - Augustus claims the apparatus remains dismantled. However, during our brief conversation he attempted to converse with me in Czech and at least once called me Abraxas. Furthermore he was not aware that Croaker and Morlock have applied for another influx of funds.
It does not seem possible for one who specialised in memory magics to be losing his faculties so rapidly but then, Gus is nearly, what? nearly ninety?
The best of us do deteriorate, unfortunately. Worst is that there is no one we may trust to replace him at present. Unless either of you have a thought on the matter.

May. 30th, 2013 12:29 pmJust finished with Rookwood. He sees the point in taking additional precautions and has agreed to alarm Mysteries to your sole attention, Barty. Rod, if you could assist him; fear he will need the extra wand (and memory) of one well-versed in protective spellwork.
Have either of you spoken with Bella? Received a message from her - cryptic, but in her usual direct tone - that she will join us late this evening and has 'news' for us.
Presumably that relates to who else besides Higgs may be implicated in -

Just thought of something. Barty, if you and Toshenka are available, could you meet me in the Blue Drawing Room?

Reserve private room Monteith 6 PM. Confirm DS office (MD clerk). Topic: Personal.
Know you are hearing rumours of many elevations to Council among your peers or age-mates.
Don't get any ideas. We have discussed this before and you know my opinions on your readiness. Continue as you have been and there is every indication that the proper introductions shall present themselves at appropriate moments. On that note, however, inform me immediately should someone approach you, particularly if it is not someone well-known to you.
Send copy of remarks from Fudge's state of Protectorate address to me no later than half-eleven. Particularly the mark-up section on self-sufficient manufacturing and muggle containment. Wish to review before luncheon; meeting with Dunstan and Allenham moved to half-one.
Also, find out when Rookwood's next avail. And whether the following people are in DoM to-day: Bale, Covington, Croaker, Morlock, Sinistra. Discreetly.

May. 20th, 2013 11:05 pmHave just returned from White's where Ptolemy asked his father and me to join him. Showed us his new Mark.
If he thought Ari would embrace him with paternal pride he was sorely mistaken. He has only just reconciled him-self to being a father-in-law! He was entirely unprepared to see Ptolemy undertaking Our Lord's service so young or so soon after marrying.
Took quite a number of rounds to calm him down. Might have been one too many for Ptolemy as well. (At any rate he took my advice and has gone home with his father rather than surprise his new wife with a late-night carouse.)
Cannot blame him. Barty hears about Ned second-hand, and Bella about Lana. Claudius was not present at Sarah's induction; now Ari and I both blind-sided by Ptolemy. If my clerk's petition is granted before the end of the summer we may all be sure the ranks are being diluted to a purpose - though what He intends I could not pretend to guess.
There was something else.
Can't
Oh.
Covington. Augustus says he checked the log book. Covington's not been to his lab since Friday after-noon. Odd because Covington typically works at least one day at the week-end and for the past three weeks has been in by 7:00 a.m. on Mondays.
Also, Barty: Augustus had something new about Bale.

Brief notes
Nov. 13th, 2011 11:10 pmMinerva, meant to remind you to include in your report next week the performance of the new groundskeeper as well as Mr Milland in his duties as caretaker. Particularly with the tournament at the week-end, there are parties who will wish to know if you made the right choice, splitting the two positions again.
Barty, Narcissa asks me to invite you to supper to-morrow at the Manor. Something about wanting to try a few new dishes she's considering for our holiday party. Trust you'll be available.
Weasley, before I forget: The minutes from Wednesday's Executive Session still had not arrived as of this morning. See to it. And the last month's industry report, as well.
Draco, received your owl. Thank you.
Ari, to-morrow? Yes. Make it ten o'clock. Have Rookwood at half-eleven so must be back to the Ministry by then.

Nov. 10th, 2010 12:37 pmCrouch Junior, Kendall. Not Senior. And it's the Animagus Registry, not Werewolf.
McCormick is not from the Prophet - all the more reason to decline his request.
Croaker - no, not until next quarter. Rookwood - no, but if he wishes I will visit the lab later this month. He may make whatever case he wishes then.
Have you made any progress on providing Mr Baddock with the list of names he requested? Ogden's assistant ought to have them, if the file gives you no direction.
No more Floo calls regarding the Witch Weekly feature, if you please. Mrs Malfoy's assistant can address all inquiries about it. Not even sure when the subscribers receive their copy, let alone general sale.
Also, where is that file on Chapman? The reply granting the petition is drafted but there are a few details to fill in.
Finally, the next time Dideron calls, kindly make a greater effort to reach me rather than take a message. The Ministry have runners, after all, it cannot be so impossible to send word.

Nov. 9th, 2010 12:07 pmWhen I asked for a meeting with Rigg and Bletchley regarding Wednesday's Wizengamot session, what on earth made you think the meeting could occur on Thursday?
Reschedule it correctly if you please. Early morning is fine - six or seven o'clock if necessary. Or late to-day.
And no, there is no reason to grant anyone from the Prophet an interview on Friday's arrest. Who asked - Doyle? He ought to know better. If he pesters again, contact Bole and let him know to pull in the leash.
Also - ran into Crouch this morning. He mentioned a cross-check of obliviation victims with St Mungo's as well as a registry audit and I quite agree. Work with Rookwood in Acton's office over there to obtain any clearance needed for Hopkirk's trainees to access their records; have him send the forms directly to Ned.
Also, before Friday I shall need the packet for Magical Commerce. Ordinarily MacMillan has it sent by now but I've not seen it. Possible Green misplaced it somewhere in your office.
Speaking of that, Hooper is willing to come in at the week-end to transition. Contact Crispin and have him co-ordinate with Hooper so they can set things to rights before he begins on Monday.
Oh, and I was handed figures at to-day's Labour meeting that should be included in the inspection reports. They are on the desk. Revise the graph, if you please, and return it to Warrington so he may forward it on.
I'm expecting Mr Mulciber for luncheon - when he arrives, kindly pass his lunch request to the elf (include your own if you like) and show him upstairs.

Meetings with the Minister
Apr. 8th, 2010 12:45 pmWeekly meeting with Fudge a mixed bag this week.
The worst report was that St Mungo's has documented 100 cases of purebloods contracting the paralysis and a number more than double that in halfbloods. We had thought the precautions in place adequately contained the disease's spread, but the most recent cases resulted from a family disregarding the travel advisory at the week-end bank holiday. Surprised this was the only case, frankly; it seemed that everyone was most anxious to conclude business early on Thursday and Friday last in order to take advantage of the days off. Recommended that Selwyn's people devise another pamphlet to reinforce the proper travel procedures and the consequences of reckless transportation. (The Knight Bus, for example, remains out of service for the time being.)
The good news is that there have been no new cases reported in the camps in over a week. The remedy devised by Rookwood and his assistants from St Mungo's appears to be taking hold. All muggles who have been given the restorative are seeing benefit within twenty-four hours and most are able to return to light duty within five days. The camps are reinstating them to full work within two weeks, and most report no lingering joint pain or stiffness by that time. Consequently, the Minister anticipates that labour forces will be back to normal levels by the end of April - though this is concerning as the planting season will be well underway by that time. Discussed measures to allow for the shorter planting season and account for any reduction in crops that might result.
Rookwood's cure for the halfblood and pureblood version is ready for testing. He has seen decent results in rats and ran a phase II trial outside of Willesden a few days ago. He and the Healer team are looking for volunteer families to test the cure; approached me for permission to give it to Narcissa's niece, as she is still in hospital.
Must review the packet for the NRBC board meeting on Monday. Also received word that Muggle-born Labour shall meet via firechat, as the muggle-born workforce is well on its way to restoration.
Court yesterday was ... illuminating. As is usual, the spring air instills in Our Lord a zest for new research. He has followed Rookwood's efforts closely, of course, out of concern for His people. His interest has expressed itself, however, by returning always to that subject which has been central to His pursuits for many years: To continually improve the strength of magic's ability to protect, to preserve and to prolong life and prosperity. We spoke yesterday at length regarding certain volumes He wishes to acquire .... Some are easily accessed in the library at Malfoy Manor; for others, I believe the Black home at Grimmauld Place may well hold the resources He would reference. Still others may be more difficult to find, though doubtless Hogwarts' library may have a musty copy somewhere. If so, Minerva, we may need to prevail upon your gorgon, Madam Pince, to release the manuscripts from their vault for a time.

Continued improvement
Mar. 29th, 2010 12:04 pmThe situation in the camps, we are told, improves daily. Unfortunately, the number of cases of half-bloods and purebloods continues to climb. The form of these cases is particularly concerning, as the disfigurement of the victims is itself a source of potential infection. The pamphlets which have been produced by St Mungo's and distributed by the Ministry in the last two weeks - most distressingly - accurately portray the early signs, but moreover represent the means of its communicability. The need for isolation has never been more apparent.
The effect of these precautions on various committees, boards and societies has been palpable. The bright spot, however, is that our industry is well on its way to restoration.
Regarding the cure, Rookwood and his St Mungo's team report progress, though still no sure success. Of course, they are working round the clock and a few hours besides, but at Court we hear the feeble excuses of the experimental researcher: perfection cannot be rushed; without certainty we risk worsening the problem; these things take time. Needless to say, while we understand the need for diligence, the demands of public health dictate that their pace never slacken until they find the solution.
Moving on to more pleasant topics, Narcissa remarked over the week-end that she ought to begin planning Draco's birthday party. Though she was distracted yesterday by her cousin's poor health, but that seems to be a simple enough thing to remedy.
Draco, as I recall, you had a deal of activities you desired. Since owls are currently still under restriction, perhaps you might use the school holiday to give your mother an idea of what you would like to include at the celebrations.
Thursday will be the first of the month - inconceivable, but at least the weather has improved vastly in London over the last two weeks. Raining to-day, naturally.

Ongoing Investigations
Feb. 23rd, 2010 11:50 pmSat in this morning on an MLE meeting to update Scrimgeour on the Aurors' progress. Declined interview from the Prophet, as well - Bole has reporters loitering outside Fudge's offices in the hopes that someone will give a quote.
Naturally, the leak of the name 'Project Panacea' has been the primary concern, since it was the only iota of accurate intelligence in that screed of Black's from the week-end. By its nature, the DoM must be ensured of absolute secrecy in its operations. The idea that their vital work might be compromised by persons who have been seduced by Black's insurrectionist influence threatens the security of the entire Ministry. As yesterday's Prophet article documented, the Minister has acted swiftly to mobilise the Aurors to discover how Black could have learned the name of the project, and more importantly, how he was able to subvert its intent.
It is clear from the ongoing investigation that Black incited his followers to tamper with the water and food supply to the camps, in order to blame the DoM for his own actions. It is a classic pattern with him, by now reaching the proportion of serial psychosis. Project Panacea had been meant to improve productivity and reduce the need for disciplinary demonstrations; it followed that Rookwood and his team, of necessity, altered their formulae in order to reverse Black's damage. Only when Black believed his plans were in danger of coming to ruination did he launch his additional assault directly into the journals and minds of the Protectorate.
Happily, the Aurors have been hard at work pursuing several highly profitable leads. Auror Lestrange tells me she is particularly pleased with the progress. In fact, we received word this evening that the Aurors have a few persons of interest in custody already. Am confident that we shall know considerably more about Black's accomplices shortly, possibly by morning.
The meetings went long enough that the Minister extended this morning's itinerary into and through luncheon. Very pleased to see that his staff are all settling well into their new or continued positions; Ms Robins especially seemed quite content with the increase in her responsibilities and remains as affable as ever. Despite the severity of the day's business, Fudge was able to maintain a convivial spirit throughout the meal, and set a far superior table to Dolores', one must admit.
Consequently told Ari I should be ill company for tea, however he urged me to come anyway. Turns out he invited Pandora and Narcissa both in order to deliver some additional news: He has been asked to take Ogden's seat in the Wizengamot. Ogden had announced his decision to retire over the Christmas holidays, of course, but his retirement will not take effect until just before the summer session. Ari accepted, naturally - he begins sitting as a delegate after the Easter recess.
Think Narcissa is cooking up something for Friday; she returned with me to the St James' house to my surprise and had a deal of conference with Crispin. He refused to tell me the nature of her questions, though one may guess the topic concerned timetables and the probable docket for court of the afternoon.
Finally, Clarriker owled the quarterly reports for Folkestone. Disappointing, but not entirely unexpected, given the state of commerce. Another circumstance we may attribute to Black and his traitorous malefactors!

Change in Week-end Plans
Feb. 14th, 2010 09:12 pmHorace, thank you and Minerva again for kindly arranging a three-way fire chat so that Narcissa and I could speak directly to Draco. His servants' murder hit him rather hard, I think, not least because it is the first time he has seen death so closely. (And I, too, wish for his sake that he had not chosen to view the body, Horace, but agree that it was his right to do so.) I believe Draco had grown attached to Dennis, not just because he had acquired him for his own, but out of a genuine sense of responsibility for his possession. Particularly coming as Dennis did from Harry and the Lord Protector, it was doubly difficult for him to accept that anyone would mean him harm. I do not doubt that Draco will continue to recover from the loss, but that it may not be an easy or instant adjustment.
In any event, the news of the attack's effect on Draco prompted us to reconsider my decision to abdicate the Manor for the week-end. I did manage some tasks on Saturday while Narcissa entertained her cousin, but it was just as well I remained on hand. I had already made provisions for a Valentine's Day spent (of necessity) apart, however it was infinitely more enjoyable to spend the holiday in each other's company.
The good news is that Rookwood was able to deploy his trials this week and is monitoring them for their results. If all goes well, he should be able to expand the programme in a matter of days.
Meanwhile, Magical Commerce meets to-morrow, amid much consternation over the impact of continued labour shortages and the newer travel restrictions on the state of consumption within the realm.
As if by contrast, Ari and Pandora have arranged a reception on Tuesday in honour of the Londinarium article (which I gather from him was much to their liking) - and in a sort of celebration of Ptolemy's recent assumption of the role of Slytherin prefect. Although the circumstances were far from ideal, Ari is of course proud that Ptolemy was considered the best choice to redeem the house, following Mr Ollivander's disappointing dereliction of his duties.

Although the circumstances were far from ideal, Ari is of course proud that Ptolemy was considered the best choice to redeem the house, following Mr Ollivander's disappointing dereliction of his duties.
Following Rookwood's - admittedly - compelling demonstration earlier this week, was able to recommend to Minister Fudge that the DoM be given immediate access to field testing facilities. Requires careful co-ordination with the Department of Magical Transportation, owing the delicate nature of the equipment which must be transferred to their test locations. Unfathomably, O'Connor took it into her head to insist that the parchmentwork for portkeys could not be rushed, regardless of the circumstances. Some nonsense, I gather, about the staff shortage creating a backlog of 'urgent' requests for portkeys - and a good deal of waffle concerning the safety of the proposed destinations. Have never seen Rookwood so beside himself. Under different circumstances it could have been highly entertaining; given the very real consequences of success, however, could only agree with his sense of outrage. Had O'Connor in Cornelius' office by day's end. Confident that Augustus shall have his portkeys within a week.
Ari quite surprised me Tuesday by revealing that Reg's young friend has already interviewed and visited Kenwood for a profile on the family. He had mentioned spring, but it seems Bobolis was too eager to wait. Learning from Reg's somewhat misplaced faith, Ari insisted on an advance copy of the article in order to ensure his full approval of the story. (Bobolis has not yet delivered, however.)
Amanda, Narcissa tells me that you have settled on robes (a fact which I understand was the subject of much discussion back and forth between you). Of course I'm pleased that Froissart has secured your preferred venue. And no, I do not doubt that he will continue to endeavour to satisfy you in every way possible. As to your question regarding whether we should be able to attend: Dearest, may I remind you yet again that the excursion to France last summer was a special circumstance, and that moreover with the restrictions in place it is even less likely than ever that we will make the journey. It has nothing whatever to do with my approval or lack thereof! As you so vehemently stated on our visit, I have no dominion over your decisions - only concern that you consider with care the choices you make. Do not over-estimate my ability to move the earth for your convenience and by no means mistake my limitations for a passive objection to your plans.
Draco, I trust you have resolved the matter of obedience in your servant? We'll continue to send Valerian to you at the week-end so you can send your letters.

Fudge's First Weeks
Jan. 31st, 2010 01:18 pmIt is dizzying to reflect that Minister Fudge has been in office for a full three weeks already.
Not all of the transitional activities are concluded, but thus far it seems he has made some progress, particularly in the direction of the investigation into the security breaches that enabled Black and his spies to exacerbate the medical crisis.
(Dominic, you may have heard by now but I'm pleased to tell you that you were spot-on regarding Miss Robins; Cornelius has re-arranged his personal staff somewhat and recognised her ambitions with a promotion much more suited to her at this time. I believe the young lady will go far - but this ought to appease her as an interim step!)
The travel restrictions have made several meetings difficult. At Nimbus and Presto, there have been no need for changes to the procedure but Muggleborn Labour and Magical Commerce each have a member or two who happen to be halfbloods. Consequently the boards have made allowance for their absence by means of providing the agendas early so that they may register their opinions and recommendations via owl. Tedious, but it gives them their fair say without requiring them to violate the terms of the edict. The Daily Prophet has simply replaced those Board members who cannot attend in order to ensure quorum. The Hogwarts Governors, of course, cannot meet at the school owing to the quarantine, but have communicated directly to Peakes who shall extend the decisions to the Headmistress.
Despite the increased limitations and precautions, we have continued to enjoy a pleasant winter between home and London. Last week-end, of course, we went to the theatre with Barty; mid-week there was a reception at the Dulwich to unveil the newest exhibit on early Reformation portraiture; last night we attended Lady Percy's annual winter ball. To-day we shall be celebrating young Rigel's six-month anniversary with Bella and Rodolphus and the rest of the family.
Narcissa had a commitment arise that prevents her from her St Mungo's volunteer activities. Not sure when she will return to the Auxiliary, though it seems at least not for the next several weeks. Some sort of course she agreed to lead for the Witches' Institute, I believe, conflicting with her ordinary St Mungo's time - and of course it is impossible for her to switch with someone else indefinitely. So for the time being, we continue our support for the dedicated Healers of that fine institution through our regular donations and other means.
Rookwood insisted I stop into the DoM to-morrow. Suspect I know what it regards. Although as this is the third time in as many months he has been 'convinced' he has achieved breakthrough, I remain skeptical.

Too Many Meetings
Dec. 23rd, 2009 10:02 pmOne would think that with the holidays in full swing, he amount of time spent in committee and council would diminish.
One would be wrong.
Barely got away from the Ministry long enough to meet Ari for the briefest of teas and then a rushed jaunt home to change for the Ministry reception. Deadly dull, incidentally - never one of the highlights of the season, although at least this year the lobster tail was not transfigured.
Rookwood has been anxious to gain access again as soon as possible. He remains convinced he is only a few trials away from resolving his previous efforts' failings.
Meanwhile, Avery owls nearly every hour in fear that the cold he contracted last week will burgeon into something more sinister. He has entirely lost any perspective on the inspection activities - as if he could suffer dire consequences for merely observing the muggleborn training. (And if he did not observe proper precautions or take appropriate action afterward, it is his own fault!)
We are nearly ready, I think, for Christmas - later each year, it seems! - except that Narcissa is still morose over the lack of our son. Must admit that his absence leaves a void. Hope that his gifts and the parcels of food and so on improve his mood. Reading the Londinarium profile reminded me that we have been lucky thus far in our son's complicity and sense of duty; not all young men are so exemplary, no matter what their upbringing. Despite occasional displays that betray his age, Draco has always proven mindful of his loyalty to family and to the Lord Protector, and for that we are most grateful.
Speaking of loyalty, agree with Walburga that Pansy's reformation remains most satisfactory. Rosa has asked us to meet her and Prospero for drinks on Sunday. Fear that she means mainly to press for us to ease his entry into society and not a little bit to renew her attempts to pry into matters that are not her concern.

New Publication
Dec. 12th, 2009 06:04 pmHome from the Baddocks' - Pandora is still a trifle vexed that she was wrong several weeks ago and little Natalie has not yet exhibited her magic. Narcissa assured her that it will come in due course. Malcolm grows taller every time we see him and Lucy and Antonia seem well over their shy stage. Ari has been working with all three of them; we were treated to a short display of wand work before going in to supper.
Everyone is talking about this Londinarium periodical that debuted to-day. I daresay that leaving The Prophet was the best thing young Bobolis ever did. To say nothing of his flare for the dramatic - imagine pulling such a stunt merely to secure the interview in the first place. Well, the Witches' Institute certainly thanks him, and from what I hear, he has reason to thank them in return! If the next issue matches this one it promises a most ... interesting future for him. (In fact, Ari has a mind to let him photograph Kenwood, now that it is fully appointed.)
Regulus, wherever did he get those photographs? There are at least three Narcissa and I had never before seen. We had a long chuckle over that ludicrous shot of the traitor - quite a find on Bobolis' part, I must say.
Otherwise, lost track of the number of times I was drawn into conversations on some pretext or other, only to find that the assembly wished in reality to inquire about the state of the labour crews and the retraining progress. Do I strike them as a camp administrator? The training will progress as quickly as possible. As for the defective labour details, it is not surprising, although I must agree it is distressing. The Council have reviewed the reports and find that this season's flu epidemic has debilitated much more of the population of mudbloods and muggles than anticipated. The situation is in hand, however, and I am sure the Council will devise an appropriate solution before the holiday season reaches its peak. Nonetheless, it bears a mention to MacMillan so that the Labour Committee can once again assess the demand and supply of ready workers.
On a brighter note, saw Rookwood this week at the Ministry and he believes he has made something of a breakthrough in his research. If all goes well, it should alter the course not only of the labour shortage but the quality of that labour, once the industrial rates can again be increased.
Spoke to Clarriker this week as well, chiefly regarding the items Narcissa reported seeing at Laszlo's of London. Never fear, Regulus, we shall not deprive you of your local source. On the other hand, it would be mad not to ensure that other outlets may grasp at the same luxuries as can be found in the opulence of Doughty Conduit. Though you might wish to find another 'little gem' for a while anyway; if the article generates the sort of interest I suspect it shall, you may not be able to walk out your door without legions of admirers dogging your steps.
While on the subjects of contagions, cures and importations, Minerva, have you reviewed the consumption rates of your hospital wing this year? I hope that, despite the increased infectiousness of this year's colds and flu, we do not face another winter like last year, with dire predictions of mortality lest the Governors act expeditiously.
Looking ahead to the school holidays, have arranged with Walburga (and Rosalind) to accompany Miss Parkinson to her tea. (Must remember to gauge her reaction to the Londinarium since surely she will have seen it by now. Overall, expect her to be pleased with the light it puts on Reg and Orion, but of course, there are some distressing inclusions.) Deuced inconvenient, since Muggleborn Labour may go overlong, but then it also serves as a good reason to keep the meeting short. Pansy, you will be happy to know our strategy worked admirably well, just as I predicted. Your mother believes I am doing her the favour, rather than the other way round. Well done, my dear.
On the other hand, she has not grown so grateful as to defer her requests on her own behalf. Consented to allow her and her Mr Campbell to accompany Narcissa and myself to the release party for Solstice Night's new album. Apparently Mr Campbell fancies himself in the recording industry, among other things.
Finally, noted the incident at Hogwarts yesterday. Mr Marvolo, I am sure your esteemed Father has already assured you that you need feel neither remorse nor apprehension at displaying your abilities to good effect before your classmates. In a duel, such tactics are not only expected but often necessary. Your conduct was in no way unseemly, particularly not if provoked by events such as have been described. Think nothing of it.

Labour decisions
Nov. 11th, 2009 08:26 pmExtremely busy day to-day. Early morning meeting at the Ministry with Spencer-Wells, pursuant to yesterday's Muggleborn Labour committee. Then dropped in to see Dolores briefly, followed by fifteen minutes with MacMillan before the Wizengamot session.
Briefest of luncheons; straight back to the Ministry and into conference with Warrington and Nott; then Buckingham; finally back to the Ministry to confirm that Nott, Spencer-Wells and Dolores had met and reached a suitable conclusion; whereupon we were once again closeted to determine the exact wording of the announcement for the morning Prophet. Luckily, Miss Robins anticipated that we would be detained through supper and took the liberty of ordering from Sainsbury's.
Warrington has Bole on the Floo now and Spencer-Wells has contacted Griderson for action to-morrow straight off. Should be able to receive an update from them both during my weekly hour with the Minister.
Suffice to say that the labour demand shall be met and the Muggleborn Labour Committee shall no longer find itself overrun with impossible requests.
Just about to leave when Rookwood stopped me in the entrance hall. No answer would satisfy but that I accompany him immediately down to the ninth level to view new evidence that figures highly in his research. Clear that Rookwood's direction requires additional licence and agreed to raise the matter with the Minister in the morning.
