All as usual
Feb. 26th, 2014 11:50 amMy thanks for the many returns of the day. For those who have asked: No, no special plans. Perhaps a quiet supper with friends, as has been my wont for the past several years. Particularly as there is no State event pre-occupying one's attention; they are welcome, of course, with the pomp and splendour they provide, but one also appreciates the opportunity to celebrate only with one's nearest from time to time.
However, was reminded by the various cards and tokens that it has been some time since posting. Pray think no nefarious cause in that: All has proceeded at a customary pace. One's business of late has been too sensitive for public consumption but all is well as can be expected. If my journal has been more a source of reading material than a mouthpiece recently, it is only that there has been nothing of interest to report.
By contrast, the efforts of Our Lord's young novices have continued to offer both insight and diversion. Received quite a number of compliments on my son's performance, following the last Hogsmeade week-end, in which Ned, Crispin and others were able to meet with their candidate choices. Would that any credit were mine; he is wholly his own man, by this time. Still, one cannot help be proud to hear so well of one's offspring. That he has already distinguished himself in pursuit of Our Lord's own recognition is worth more than any birthday present.
Speaking of presents, though: Amanda, received your latest gift and news with amusement. While we should like nothing better than to meet our new nephew, it is unlikely we shall find the time to arrange a visit before next Christmas. Perhaps not even then. Pleased to inform, however, that as the Ministry's next great advance completes itself, under the watchful eye of Our Lord, the ability to travel safely may well be improved. Tell Mother she ought to look after herself better, as well: a broken hip may be easily mended, but it is still no joke at her age.
Oh, and Miss Parkinson: I've time for tea prior to to-morrow's Governor's meeting, if you would like to join me. We can discuss your own place among the standings and follow-up on other matters concerning your future.

Best Wishes to the Candidates
Jan. 13th, 2014 07:59 amAspiring to a place in Our Lord's circle is, simply, the highest goal any witch or wizard may hope to achieve. All else pales in comparison to serving Him personally. Certainly, it is a day Mrs Malfoy and I have anticipated for our son since his birth. That he, and all the others of you, are being offered the opportunity to prove yourselves so early in life is honour indeed.
The last time Our Lord initiated new members of the Council while they were in school (or so close to completing it), it was wartime. Recruits were sorely needed. Perhaps it is in a fitting tribute to those days that Our Lord was inspired to devise this crucible wherein you will be tested. Be assured that not only your sponsors, but the whole of the Council will be watching the proceedings closely, ready to welcome whomever rises to the top, and making note of others along the way whose potential may not yet be tempered to perfection.
Good luck to one and all.
Draco: Anything we have needed to say has been said. Make us proud.
Hydra: You have been singled out among your class but there can be no question of your right to compete at the same level as your elders. Your aunt wished me to convey her fond hopes for your success.
Miss Parkinson: Best of luck, my dear. Remember your heritage and the traditions to which you are also heir.
Harry: Your task is no less important. Your Father has given you a solemn responsibility. Of course you will not wish to disappoint. My best advice is to trust your instincts, knowing as you do your Father's mind (as much as any of us may presume to do that!). Do not hesitate to consult those around you, should you need it, for guidance, however.
Razzer: It seems you are to be entertained first-hand. Enjoy the display and bring your customary sobering influence to the proceedings, for surely there will be a need to maintain discipline in the face of the contests ahead.
Minerva: You are no stranger to the imposition of chaos into the school. Trust you are aware of your duty both to Our Lord and to the Governors to balance the necessities of the challenges posed to the candidates against the need to provide a meaningful education to those not participating. Should you find yourself in a quandary, however, the Governors are prepared to forge a clearer path for you.
Antonin Nikolaevich: I should have thought it obvious what Our Lord's decision signifies. Out of deference to our long friendship, shall trouble you no more on the subject. Should you wish to reconsider your words, you know where I am. Thank you, as always, for your kind advice.

Jan. 9th, 2014 12:03 pmShall not be returning to St James' house this after-noon. However, wished to let you know that you have been selected - personally, by Our Lord - for a special task.
It seems He has arranged a rather important contest at Hogwarts this term. He hasdemanded decided that you shall act as liaison between the judges He has named at Hogwarts and Himself. You are to receive reports on the competitors' conduct, compile them and present them to Him at regular intervals. I am given to understand that young Marvolo shall be the chief arbiter but there are others whom He has entrusted to inform Him of the progress of His potential acolytes.
No doubt you recognise the signal honour His regard implies. Of course, anything He should require of you is to take precedence, even over my own affairs. However, should it be necessary - that is, should you find it ... impossible ... to maintain your duties in my service - then I expect you shall undertake the necessary steps to procure an assistant who can insure that the business of my household - and the realm, indeed - may continue apace.
Broome will contact you with the details of your audiences with Our Lord and what sorts of information He wishes you to distill. Your rôle in this may in fact be the crucible you have been seeking to prove your worth, alongside those young hopefuls Our Lord now favours with His consideration.
Congratulations, young man. See that you do nothing to disgrace yourself - or me.

Nov. 12th, 2013 03:15 pmPreparing final touches on the report for Our Lord. Plan to send Cadmus to deliver the worst of the news.
Bella, shall you go along or do you prefer to keep the pressure on the perimeter of the affected area? If you wish someone to return to St James' Palace with Rodolphus, Narcissa will keep watch, surely.
Saltash camp: Destroyed. An area approx. 10 acres disappeared under a spell believed to be a variant of Fidelius at seven o'clock this morning. Investigation pending. Area to remain under surveillance by MLE indefinitely.
Casualties: Rufus McLaggen, Councilwizard and former Auror Trainee (by the hand of Frank Longbottom); four MLE personnel (names attached); Camp Administrator Hugh Pendarvis; 15 camp enforcers
Missing, Presumed Dead: Junior Administrator Carter Prentiss (captured within the inaccessible area); further half-dozen camp personnel
Wounded: Crouch, Barty; Lestrange, Rodolphus; Mulciber, Cadmus; Mulciber, Corax; other names (MLE, Camp) attached
Material losses: 2,500 in muggle chattel; approximately 200 head of cattle; twenty fishing boats; Saltash administration buildings and camp facilities. In addition, a further estimate of 1,000 muggle chattels were in the affected area at the time of the alleged Fidelius. See above re: MLE surveillance to capture any refugees leaving said area
Twenty-five prisoners remanded to the custody of MLE for further interrogation.
Of note: Frank Longbottom sighted by several MLE personnel but evaded capture. Witness reported sighting of Sirius Black impostor late in the morning but could not be confirmed
Anything further to add?

Aug. 17th, 2013 04:07 pmThink it's high time we hosted a reception for Our Lord's newer initiates. Perhaps shortly after Tosha and Savitha finish with the CCF students and Draco and the others are home.
Will you see to the arrangements? Up to you whether it's at Kensington or the Manor.
Be sure to include Julius Avery. With any luck we can make sure of his support before anyone else - though given who witnessed his Mark, it seems unlikely.

Freedom Day
Jul. 26th, 2013 10:05 pmPreparation for Freedom Day has consumed most of the week and anticipate will dominate next week's agenda as well.
The celebrations this year ought to call to mind those of the Protectorate's fifth anniversary, including a showcase of concerts in the Protector's Park and a series of demonstrations of skill - under controlled conditions only - highlighting the accomplishments of Our Lord's glorious realm. A final concert on the eve of the 31st will culminate in Our Lord's presentation to the winners of an essay contest from the village schools, and of course the traditional fireworks.
Once those duties have been discharged, our private holiday arrangements have also been made and we shall proceed for a much-needed rest of our own, before Draco and Harry leave for their CCF programme in August.
Summer is, as always, a somewhat slower time with so many taking holidays but we can take comfort in the knowledge that the newest Director of Protectorate Affairs recognises no such boundary: The necessary business of the nation takes precedence over all other considerations for him!

Corax Mulciber instructed by Our Lord to oversee Protectorate Affairs.
Likely he's enlisting Bill Weasley as aide. That could work to advantage; Weasley will have a window to their movements.
Still. Not sure of the full implications of this development.
Crispin, alert Rookwood if you will - quietly. Barty, shall arrange lunch or drinks alone with Cadmus and Ari sometime this week. See what you can learn from Yaxley.

Shall be able to explain soon - at least I hope. Meanwhile, the most important points:
- Dominic Selwyn was responsible. No idea where Chloe has taken the children but should she contact you, you must alert Barty at once. At once.
- It seems he had Obliviated me at least three times. Memories returned now.
- Not quite safe to return to the Manor yet. Remain where you are with Rigel. Ought to be clear in time for Razzer's wedding
- Have an errand to run at the Ministry, cannot wait until morning. Will let you know as soon as I have determined we are safe from any implications in Selwyn's treason.
- Of the Council, trust only Barty, Tosha, Rod, Bella, Raz, Ari, myself. Unclear as yet who else was part of the plot. Selwyn can no longer answer, but he was raving toward the end. No idea what Our Lord may have seen in the wretch's thoughts.
Shall contact you when I have eliminated possibility he left any manufactured evidence to bring me down with him.

Have either of you spoken with Bella? Received a message from her - cryptic, but in her usual direct tone - that she will join us late this evening and has 'news' for us.
Presumably that relates to who else besides Higgs may be implicated in -

Just thought of something. Barty, if you and Toshenka are available, could you meet me in the Blue Drawing Room?

May. 28th, 2013 01:45 pmDominic,
Apropos of our conversation last week, re: New Blood. Was just leaving Elysian and was waylaid by Glendower the Younger, who (among other uninteresting news) tells me that Higgs has been bragging he's to go to Court this after-noon, for a presentation Yaxley intends regarding 'Protectorate Defence.' Apparently Julius Avery had something to do with it as well. (Those two are not known to work together often, as you know.)
Ari and I are both intrigued. Do you know anything? We could easily forego tea this after-noon to attend instead if you think it would be worth the time.
Let us know.

May. 20th, 2013 11:05 pmHave just returned from White's where Ptolemy asked his father and me to join him. Showed us his new Mark.
If he thought Ari would embrace him with paternal pride he was sorely mistaken. He has only just reconciled him-self to being a father-in-law! He was entirely unprepared to see Ptolemy undertaking Our Lord's service so young or so soon after marrying.
Took quite a number of rounds to calm him down. Might have been one too many for Ptolemy as well. (At any rate he took my advice and has gone home with his father rather than surprise his new wife with a late-night carouse.)
Cannot blame him. Barty hears about Ned second-hand, and Bella about Lana. Claudius was not present at Sarah's induction; now Ari and I both blind-sided by Ptolemy. If my clerk's petition is granted before the end of the summer we may all be sure the ranks are being diluted to a purpose - though what He intends I could not pretend to guess.
There was something else.
Can't
Oh.
Covington. Augustus says he checked the log book. Covington's not been to his lab since Friday after-noon. Odd because Covington typically works at least one day at the week-end and for the past three weeks has been in by 7:00 a.m. on Mondays.
Also, Barty: Augustus had something new about Bale.

Apr. 29th, 2013 04:30 pmOur Lord seems to believe that His wishes in the matter of Harry's education have been fulfilled. Her failure to appear this morning, coupled with the your account, Toshenka, Razzer's and Draco's, along with Harry's own, have satisfied Him that the maths do not add up - but in this case, they do not add up in just the way He would have it. He is fully prepared to declare the woman dead with no further fuss.
Nonetheless, Cornelius has been vexatiously vocal since Saturday about the need for a thorough and transparent investigation into the circumstances of her disappearance. (Naturally this must be accomplished with less meticulousness than he desires, since revealing to the public that a student took matters into his own hands - even when that student is Harry Marvolo - would set a precedent that neither the Board nor the staff would care to endorse.)
Still, he has a point about the process of jurisprudence and, to one degree or another, it would be advantageous were MLE able to undeniably rule the incident closed. Also, племянник, it occurred to me that we ought not refuse an opportunity to explore her office, given that such an examination might reveal information regarding her co-conspirators that shall be useful in discrediting them. To say nothing of the chance to debunk her opprobrious libel toward Razzer.
диктатор, what is your timetable for the week? See no reason to inconvenience ourselves by rushing to meet the Minister's requirement and cannot think the likes of Strangeweale would be able to access her office prior to our doing so. So long as the Floo has been closed up we ought to be able to take our time.

Dec. 28th, 2012 10:40 pmWell, thank Mordred that's over.
Stephen, he did well. Quite well. Let me know if time with others his age will help him put this behind him. Harry's spending most of the holiday with us at the Manor; he could go flying with the boys and not dwell on what's been done.
Tosha, it seems you took the curse for us all in conducting Weasley elsewhere; you might be disappointed you separated, however, for Razzer joined us in Oban. (Thankfully he did not press us for details of the event, other than to ask if it had been successful.)
Dominic seemed to need the refreshment almost more than anyone. Kept going on about last Friday (and this), and how unpredictable He is becoming. Believe the business with Bettina truly unsettled him.
Don't know if you know this but Chloe locked him out that night. Then there was her outburst toward Razzer's astronomer, of course. Advised him that if he's truly worried about Our Lord's wrath being visited on his wife, he ought to counsel her toward more discretion, in future. He wasn't pleased with the remark but was too far in his cups already to give much protest.
Unfortunately, that did not stop him fretting over what might come next. First preventing Bettina Yaxley from holding a wand to punish Claudius. Then this business of forcing your ward to get his hands unnecessarily bloody, Stephen. He even suggested that Our Lord might take a notion to combine the two and force one of our children to kill one of our wives. (Do not need the night terrors that conjured!)
In the end we decided to book him a room. If he's having that much trouble with Chloe, she surely would not appreciate his arrival by Floo, stinking of firewhiskey, smoke and blood magic.
Merciful Morgana, it's been an absolute bitch of a week.

Dec. 21st, 2012 08:26 pmDearest,
Don't settle in just yet. I've spoken with Fudge, Mafalda and Claudius regarding the statements to the press, and conferred with Dominic before he was released from St M's. Still discussing with Stephen what we may need of the Finnigan lad.
Have just paid a call on the Weasley clan - the entirety of it, or what is left of it. They're waiting to remove his remains for a vigil. Say what we will of your cousin, at least she observes some of the proper ways.
However, as I mentioned at thebomb party site, Our Lord was (understandably) most wroth and intended to summon us all to Him before the end of the evening. Have just heard from Claudius that He means to convene the full Court. Not sure what it bodes. But be ready, my love.
It would be a gross miscalculation to displease Him tonight.

Private Message to Narcissa and Draco
Nov. 3rd, 2012 09:41 amDearest, have arrived safely. Bella, Barty, Dominic and other friends all well and quite invigorated by the country air. Cannot remember the last time boxty was served at breakfast; quite the variation to energise and fortify. Not clear at present when we shall have another opportunity to write.
Draco, good luck and swift flight to-day. Am most disappointed that I shall not be able to attend. Hope that your mother shall go on her own, in order to see you and to explain further. Suffice to say that we - that is to say, many of the Council - have been called to action to protect the realm from a group apparently larger than the DogStar but far less effective.
Nothing to worry about, either of you. Pray tell Pansy only that it is unavoidable business which prevents my travel to Hogwarts. Narcissa, shall try to arrange a fire chat sometime in the next day or two, if security measures will allow.
Until our next meeting, dear ones, can only leave you with all my love and I remain,
Yours

Triumphant Evening
Oct. 31st, 2012 09:23 pmAs always, Our Lord humbles us with His beneficence.
This evening's address to the populace demonstrated the wonder of Our Lord's plans for us to take our place as the greatest realm in the world - in fact, the only nation of its kind. The example we set shines ever clearer and all the brighter for His undaunted and unfailing leadership. New London's thriving trade is testament to His vision for our future and our growing prosperity and good fortune.
Was personally quite pleased to see the Birdcage Walk so lively.(Even the weather co-operates when Our Lord wishes an outdoor celebration!) The dance platform has been a stroke of genius on the part of the Burdett-Couttses (believe the competitive dancing is still on-going). Thus far only two have fallen from its height but were not, we understand, seriously injured.
Have had our shares from the carts and pedlars as well - recognised one from last winter's Frost Faire and was gratified to learn he has continued to increase his stock.
Our promenade concluded with a return to Buckingham and the festivities here shall likely persevere well into the morning hours, though we may take our leave earlier than that.
Was personally quite pleased to see the Birdcage Walk so lively.(Even the weather co-operates when Our Lord wishes an outdoor celebration!) Items Following Court
Aug. 22nd, 2012 05:28 pmToo many for private messages.
Oh, and Weasley, come in when you have a moment; there are some other matters to attend arising from Court, which cannot be entrusted to the journal.
- Hogwarts: Minerva, since you have been incapable of bringing to the Board of Governors an acceptable candidate to undertake instruction in Dark Arts, Our Lord has seen fit to resolve the vacancy on your behalf. Understand that he shall present his credentials and portfolio to you this week; note that there are other changes to the timetable which Our Lord deems appropriate (and half the Governors have already concurred), which must be accommodated before start of term. Trust you will see to the letters and revised book lists for the students.
- NRBC: Cumulus, have reviewed the statement of accounts from Monday's meeting and find it unfathomable that additional savings cannot be achieved. Presume this is down to your commitment to avoid staff cuts; advise you and your brother to re-evaluate said position.
- Weasley: There are three manuscripts from Charles here. Two of them irrelevant; third can be taken to the address affixed. Suspect the recipient will welcome the chance to review the material and provide his notes on the subject. Would appreciate if you delivered it to-night or to-morrow, if you please. Also note the addendum to Monday's schedule regarding the inspection of the Battersea Park project. Finally, require the revisions to the Commerce Committee's minutes before end of day. MacMillan's clerk was supposed to send them over. Kindly track them down, will you; I'd like to sign off before leaving.
- LB: Expect an owl from me. Sending you some reading for your time at Gloss. Trust it will make the days pass more pleasantly.
- Narcissa: Trust you are settled? Did not hear from you this morning. Did hear from Yvaine, hoping to find you. Told her 'holiday' meant you were likely not tied to your journal. (Seem to recall something about not carrying them everywhere this holiday; that was the plan, was it not?) Heard from a few others as well, all hoping for your opinion about something. You might wish to contact Miss Poddington as it seems she received a handful of messages as well.
