Weasley, meet me in the office in two hours.

Much to explain but in brief:

-As you know, the Ministry's archive of Private Messages was destroyed; thus we have, for the time being at least, total privacy from any who might try to interfere.

-Evidence against Draco strongly suggests there is more to the accusation than libel. Still attempting to clear his name but it is now apparent that he will need to present himself to do so.

-Convinced Our Lord to offer a temporary reprieve, if Draco does return. However, it is still possible that he is being held against his will and will not be able to return within the window extended by Our Lord's beneficence.

-Am drafting notice for the Prophet to offer reward for information leading to Draco's release or return. Weasley, you will need assistance screening replies. Hire someone.

-Cancel after-noon appointments to-mor -

Oh, blast. Will cancel after-noon myself.

Milland has been located.

The real Milland, that is.

He does not appear to be in dire need of medical assistance but it would be prudent to have him checked by a professional. Madam Pomfrey, if you could join us at your earliest convenience. Tosha, we may use your office again?

Will be most interested to hear what he can tell us.
alt_lucius: (HangOn)
Draco,

We have been in conference for some hours now with Cadmus Mulciber and Theo Nott, Sr. They have quite a tale to tell concerning your relations with that mudblood servant of Harry's.

Son, there is no reason to stay away. You may fear repercussions for having run but if you return immediately, we can sort this out. It is clear that this is a vicious attempt to discredit you for having out-performed Nott's son so roundly in Our Lord's service.

As for the incidents that occurred as you fled, we will of course co-operate with MLE and resolve them. It is no secret that Teddy Nott harassed your friends; it will be no great difficulty to produce witnesses to corroborate that testimony and prove that, however Theo Nott believes himself wronged, his son provoked you and you acted in self-defence.

If there is any truth in their story, it is only that the mudblood clearly has been colluding with a traitor to Our Lord's realm for some time and likely has attempted to ensnare you into her plans. Naturally, it would be shameful to admit any temptation but you would not be the first wizard to find himself so tempted. We know that you could never have committed any such depraved acts as Nott and Mulciber have concocted. Come back, Draco, and set the record straight.

The longer you stay away, the more guilty you appear to be. We know you may be frightened but please, trust your Mother and Father, who only want what is best for you and who will do everything in their power to protect your life and clear your good name.

Do not let your uncle's sacrifice on your behalf go in vain. Come home, now, and we will settle this matter together.

Father and Mother

Official Request. Confidential and Private. Prompt Attention Appreciated

At approximately 10:55 A.M. today Julius Avery, late of Our Lord's Council, accosted me in my office and challenged me to right of combat.

Please send investigators at your earliest convenience to inspect our wands and retrieve Mr Avery's remains. Have had my clerk clear my diary for the day in order to provide a full statement.

Preparing final touches on the report for Our Lord. Plan to send Cadmus to deliver the worst of the news.

Bella, shall you go along or do you prefer to keep the pressure on the perimeter of the affected area? If you wish someone to return to St James' Palace with Rodolphus, Narcissa will keep watch, surely.

Saltash camp: Destroyed. An area approx. 10 acres disappeared under a spell believed to be a variant of Fidelius at seven o'clock this morning. Investigation pending. Area to remain under surveillance by MLE indefinitely.

Casualties: Rufus McLaggen, Councilwizard and former Auror Trainee (by the hand of Frank Longbottom); four MLE personnel (names attached); Camp Administrator Hugh Pendarvis; 15 camp enforcers

Missing, Presumed Dead: Junior Administrator Carter Prentiss (captured within the inaccessible area); further half-dozen camp personnel

Wounded: Crouch, Barty; Lestrange, Rodolphus; Mulciber, Cadmus; Mulciber, Corax; other names (MLE, Camp) attached

Material losses: 2,500 in muggle chattel; approximately 200 head of cattle; twenty fishing boats; Saltash administration buildings and camp facilities. In addition, a further estimate of 1,000 muggle chattels were in the affected area at the time of the alleged Fidelius. See above re: MLE surveillance to capture any refugees leaving said area

Twenty-five prisoners remanded to the custody of MLE for further interrogation.

Of note: Frank Longbottom sighted by several MLE personnel but evaded capture. Witness reported sighting of Sirius Black impostor late in the morning but could not be confirmed

Anything further to add?
alt_lucius: (Enraged)
Everyone is, for the moment, all right.

Minor injuries to a few of our number - no one seriously harmed - and heavy damage to the camp, its chattel and its surrounding area.

Bella believes she saw Longbottom among the opposition - if that band of traitors is at the head of this mess, it would explain the unanticipated level of organisation among the insurgents. Nonetheless our biggest concern has been keeping the fire from spreading - literally and figuratively - and confining the fight to a manageable radius. (Also suppressing the news but that's an entirely different battle.)

Also combatting an higher than anticipated level of chaos among our own. Confusion and indecision. Infuriating.

Should be finished here by the end of the day, however. Daylight ought to enable us to put things to rest.
alt_lucius: (Hat)
Might interest you to know that there has been a rather severe revolt at Saltash. It seems your acquaintance Prentiss was foolish not to have transferred to Maidstone when he had the opportunity.

Although, so far, perhaps it was the right decision from our perspective; he has seemed strangely rattled at the scale of this ... conflagration. (An apt term: They have set fire to almost half the compound.) It's strange, considering that he gave every indication in the inspections that he knew his camp inside and out.

But then, you know as well as I that an emergency can cause even the most organised and capable wizard somewhat addled.

Surprised Mafalda did not call in all available Aurors prior to this point. Half-expected to find that you were already here, wand in hand.

Bella's called a meeting in three minutes.
alt_lucius: (TopBox)
Message received.

Curious that they're unable to contain things themselves. Shall be at the rally point in ... ten minutes.

To-day's docket reminded one of the tireless efforts MLE undertake for the well-being of the Protectorate's subjects.

Three theft cases; two accusations of slander; a blood-traitor and collaborator; and of course, sentencing for the remains of the smuggling ring apprehended by MLE's own Aurors nearly two weeks ago.

It's truly a comfort to know that no matter who is heading the Department, Our Lord's Enforcers remain steadfast to their duty.

Luckily it was a short session, if an eventful one, which provided ample opportunity to pay long overdue visits to several colleagues at the Ministry.

Barty, heard your division had an eventful evening last night. If you are not working the festival at the week-end, you must join us and tell us all about it.
alt_lucius: (Crap)
Bellatrix, you've got Braithewaite to consent?

I've called Weasley in to work on getting the heads of the divisions so you can speak to them. Should he bring them to my house in St James or would you rather another location?

Plan to have him summon these:

Gauge
Brundage
Penderyn
Sawers-Cumming
Manningham
Wright
Mustinal
Craddock
Tally

Who else do you need on-board? And in what order? Not too familiar with who's in Mulciber's corner of late.

Will check with Ned to see how Sarah and Bettina are reacting.
alt_lucius: (BreckGirl)
Ms Lamont,

Wondered if you have made any progress in the investigation to which you were assigned yester-day. If you could be so kind as to remit your discoveries directly to myself or Auror Crouch, copied to Auror Gauge, of course, that would be appropriate in this case. You may be aware that I do, on occasion, work with MLE as a consulting member of the Council, so you need have no fear that you are violating protocol to report outside your chain of command.

Auror Crouch spoke highly (for him) of your abilities. I trust we shall not be disappointed. Thus far, your services have been most satisfactory. Pray continue with similar diligence and - I believe the word Barty used was 'creativity' - and there should be no cause for concern.

In fact ... I wish to thank you for the spirit with which you assisted to bring the journals under MLE so swiftly. I realise that you were given little choice in the request by your superior; however, one may choose to serve at the minimum required or one may go beyond what is asked. Do not take that as an insult: Suspect you are hardly the type who would or could shirk your duty, or Barty would not have praised you even remotely. It is only by way of observing that not all persons put in your position yester-day would have thrown themselves into the task with full commitment.

As I said, I would welcome the opportunity to thank you, as well as to receive further reports. Might you be interested in tea, either Wednesday or Friday this week? I can promise you better fare than the Ministry canteen, though that is perhaps too easy a promise to make.

Do let me know and send along any other information you have acquired regarding the charges against Massopust, Plympton and the others under arrest.

Yours in service to the Protectorate,

Lucius S. Malfoy, &c.

Dominic,

Apropos of our conversation last week, re: New Blood. Was just leaving Elysian and was waylaid by Glendower the Younger, who (among other uninteresting news) tells me that Higgs has been bragging he's to go to Court this after-noon, for a presentation Yaxley intends regarding 'Protectorate Defence.' Apparently Julius Avery had something to do with it as well. (Those two are not known to work together often, as you know.)

Ari and I are both intrigued. Do you know anything? We could easily forego tea this after-noon to attend instead if you think it would be worth the time.

Let us know.
alt_lucius: (Hmph)
Our Lord seems to believe that His wishes in the matter of Harry's education have been fulfilled. Her failure to appear this morning, coupled with the your account, Toshenka, Razzer's and Draco's, along with Harry's own, have satisfied Him that the maths do not add up - but in this case, they do not add up in just the way He would have it. He is fully prepared to declare the woman dead with no further fuss.

Nonetheless, Cornelius has been vexatiously vocal since Saturday about the need for a thorough and transparent investigation into the circumstances of her disappearance. (Naturally this must be accomplished with less meticulousness than he desires, since revealing to the public that a student took matters into his own hands - even when that student is Harry Marvolo - would set a precedent that neither the Board nor the staff would care to endorse.)

Still, he has a point about the process of jurisprudence and, to one degree or another, it would be advantageous were MLE able to undeniably rule the incident closed. Also, племянник, it occurred to me that we ought not refuse an opportunity to explore her office, given that such an examination might reveal information regarding her co-conspirators that shall be useful in discrediting them. To say nothing of the chance to debunk her opprobrious libel toward Razzer.

диктатор, what is your timetable for the week? See no reason to inconvenience ourselves by rushing to meet the Minister's requirement and cannot think the likes of Strangeweale would be able to access her office prior to our doing so. So long as the Floo has been closed up we ought to be able to take our time.
alt_lucius: (Angry)
Trust you received my note of last evening and cancelled morning commitments.

Continue to cancel meetings for rest of day.
alt_lucius: (OhReally?)
Just received an owl from my former clerk, Virgil Crispin. He's been asked to go to the Fleet home.

Barty, you've not uncovered any evidence implicating him in this sordid business? Cannot believe he would be so foolish but ... stranger things have happened.

Or is there some other force in play? Just Monday we were speaking of his ambitions.
alt_lucius: (Sneering)
If you're interested in a little spot of fun, Ari and I have just run across a group down by Whitehall, one of whom had a suspicious-looking kit. On closer inspection, turned out to be full of paints matching the 'artwork' discovered near the piers.

His companions have admitted that there are a few other ... participants ... along other sections of the Strand. He has graciously agreed to lead us to them.

Assume Barty is with one or the other of you, or else not far away. Bella, bring Mulciber, too, if you know his whereabouts. There should be plenty to go round.
alt_lucius: (Avada....)
Anything yet?

He's away, though His last comment was that He plans to summon us all once the scene here has been contained.

Narcissa has helpfully assembled the spouses and they are handing round tea. Kindle, Haley, Sanditon and their lot are beginning the interviews as quickly as possible.

Dominic's with the Healers but someone ought to be dispatched to St Mungo's with the family, perhaps. The ones who are here, that is.

Rowle's already rounded up the work detail (and another work detail besides) for Swift Retribution.

And I need to speak to Stephen as soon as possible, if you see him.
alt_lucius: (Smiling)
New London has cloaked itself, it would seem, in a holiday spirit. Noticed the fairy lights through the trees that line Pall Mall this morning, before it lightened enough to dim their twinkle.

It is all the more refreshing to be back in the light of Our Lord's grace, as well. Though sadly, not all of us returned, nor could be in Court to receive His rewards for our work across the sea. (Went to see Yaxley this after-noon, briefly: He is recovering but still struggles with aphasia and simple function.)

But, useless to dwell on such morbidity. Our efforts have restored peace to the region and prove, beyond shadow of doubt, that subduing the muggle threat is the only way to maintain that peace.

Moreover, as contentious as the last two weeks have been, it was a delight to see my fellow Councilwizards back in the thick of work they were born to do. Minerva, Tosha, Raz: particularly good to have your talents on our side in the field. (And as a Governor, I hope we did not keep you from scholastic duty so long that your students have suffered overmuch.)

As for Ireland, anticipate that the Minister's tour will find our allies eager to co-operate and show him every courtesy.

Unfortunately, the affair has put one far behind on other matters; to-day was spent nearly entirely in reviewing the journals, owls, messages and other backlog of correspondence which could not be addressed in my absence. To-morrow shall be a day full of old business, as well, apart from confirming the interim head of MLE (Bella has threatened disembowelment if she is required to manage the minutiae a day longer). Next week, perhaps, we may proceed properly to new business.
alt_lucius: (Shadowed)
Our end stands ready, baited and set.

Yours?
alt_lucius: (Farah)
Briefly, as you know we are still exceptionally pre-occupied with putting out the last fires throughout Ireland (in some cases, literally),

Marston: Have been thinking about our last meeting in August and the issues you raised, including many points with which, as I said at the time, I did not disagree, but saw no nearby horizon in which the circumstances giving rise to your complaints might change.

Well. The events of the last week do somewhat alter the picture, do they not? Have a proposition for you. If you can spare Miss Blishwick or any other of your senior engineers, the damage in Galway, Dublin and Belfast needs assessment. There shall commence a bidding process for the rebuild, of course, but arriving today - tomorrow at latest - would give you a head start on surveying the wreckage and taking preliminary measure of what might be proposed for the reclamation. Perhaps that, in some wise, would compensate for your firm's losses in the spring?

Understand that I can in no way offer assurance at this time. Others will naturally wish to compete, and indeed, you know as well as I that the Ministry is obligated to consider all incoming proposals on their merits. However, an early view, before the unaffiliated hopefuls are cleared to travel, could make a significant difference to your rough estimates.

Of course, once the initial survey is complete would assume that your party would return to British soil, since surely you have projects underway which require your engineers' attention. But things are calm enough that appropriate documentation can be provided to allow access to the sites.

I mention Miss Blishwick only because I seem to recall that waterfronts and bridges are a specialty of hers. Both Galway and Belfast sustained significant destruction on their seaward vistas, which shall require reconstruction.

Let me know if you decide to accept the offer and shall contact MLE for the travel parchments. Until then I remain

-LM, &c.
