Need meeting with Reginald Helpmann, here or at Manor or Kensington, not at Ministry, at his earliest convenience. Tell him the topic is assembling a delegation for French Morocco. Must include witches and wizards fluent in French and Arabic.

Contact Gringott's. Will have a number of instructions for the goblins regarding access to the vaults and transfer of certain sums to Gringott's France.

Wizarding Wireless Network and Daily Prophet - will need meetings with Peale and Cuffe next week or week after next.

Boniface Caldecott should have current copy of my will. Have him look it over and make certain there is no way for the assets to be seized by the Protectorate. If that is impossible, have him transfer all deeds, titles, ownership, rights, etc. to Mrs Malfoy. Need meeting with him to review/revise current bequests and, if necessary, sign parchment for above transfer.

Contact Osiris Sinclair. Arrange private appointment for myself and Mrs Malfoy to decide on post-mortem options. Private, Weasley, meaning his parlour will be closed whilst we make our selections.

Shall be working from the Manor this after-noon.

With everything that has transpired this week, forgot to mention to you: Rabastan's private service is to-morrow.

Trust you understand.

Would like to meet, however, sometime soon. Much to discuss. May not be able to get away much in the next few days but my diary has been more-or-less cleared for the family crisis.

Say when.

Ms Lamont,

As you no doubt saw, I was just speaking with Auror Crouch, on the matter of ... personnel turnover at the Ministry. He suggested I talk to MEU and naturally, you came to mind.

The Minister is concerned regarding a potential morale deficit with all the departures of the last year or so. He asked Administration to run a check and it seems that our friend Corax Mulciber's department, Protectorate Affairs - the department where you have been assigned oversight - has overtaken MLE as the department with the greatest turnover, including some quite high-profile positions. There was that fellow Cook who was exposed in the papers last week for his potions addiction and, oh, a few other prominent figures, along with several clerks and lower-level posts.

With Gauge's permission, should like to meet with you to-morrow to go over the files. Would you be free at teatime, perchance?

Shall we say Blaison at four o'clock?

Yours in anticipation,

Lucius S. Malfoy

Anything further to report? Received word that there were aftershocks reported in St Austell and Bodmin. Further fatalities?

What is the estimated time it will take to repair the flooding reported along the River Fowey?

Expect another report within the hour.

SR sent awaited signal. Send packet no. two to Prophet via anon. post owl.

Also. Had news from CF which plays into plans. Take packet no. three from blotter to his ofc. tomorrow. See that RR sees you deliver same but do not give it directly to her, use one of the other girls.

Oh, and see if you can find out AB's schedule for month.

And. W/in week, invite UA to lunch. Will provide alternate stationery for same.

That's all for now, except to let me know to-morrow when you next plan to meet your brother. May have information for you to slip into conversation; from there, trust he will carry to CM2.

Arrived Durness, about two and a half hours ago. Bode insistent we go straight to the site while he ran tests on the stone. Nothing conclusive as yet.

Likely heading to St David's in the morning before returning to New London. Our Lord will wish an update at Court.

(Interesting to note that when things go wrong, many who might otherwise have sneered default to their previous wont - looking for someone to hide behind, doubtless, but nonetheless amusing to watch.)

Now to the apparently impossible task of finding a decent meal in this wasteland.
alt_lucius: (BreckGirl)
My thanks for the many returns of the day. For those who have asked: No, no special plans. Perhaps a quiet supper with friends, as has been my wont for the past several years. Particularly as there is no State event pre-occupying one's attention; they are welcome, of course, with the pomp and splendour they provide, but one also appreciates the opportunity to celebrate only with one's nearest from time to time.

However, was reminded by the various cards and tokens that it has been some time since posting. Pray think no nefarious cause in that: All has proceeded at a customary pace. One's business of late has been too sensitive for public consumption but all is well as can be expected. If my journal has been more a source of reading material than a mouthpiece recently, it is only that there has been nothing of interest to report.

By contrast, the efforts of Our Lord's young novices have continued to offer both insight and diversion. Received quite a number of compliments on my son's performance, following the last Hogsmeade week-end, in which Ned, Crispin and others were able to meet with their candidate choices. Would that any credit were mine; he is wholly his own man, by this time. Still, one cannot help be proud to hear so well of one's offspring. That he has already distinguished himself in pursuit of Our Lord's own recognition is worth more than any birthday present.

Speaking of presents, though: Amanda, received your latest gift and news with amusement. While we should like nothing better than to meet our new nephew, it is unlikely we shall find the time to arrange a visit before next Christmas. Perhaps not even then. Pleased to inform, however, that as the Ministry's next great advance completes itself, under the watchful eye of Our Lord, the ability to travel safely may well be improved. Tell Mother she ought to look after herself better, as well: a broken hip may be easily mended, but it is still no joke at her age.

Oh, and Miss Parkinson: I've time for tea prior to to-morrow's Governor's meeting, if you would like to join me. We can discuss your own place among the standings and follow-up on other matters concerning your future.
alt_lucius: (Enraged)
Everyone is, for the moment, all right.

Minor injuries to a few of our number - no one seriously harmed - and heavy damage to the camp, its chattel and its surrounding area.

Bella believes she saw Longbottom among the opposition - if that band of traitors is at the head of this mess, it would explain the unanticipated level of organisation among the insurgents. Nonetheless our biggest concern has been keeping the fire from spreading - literally and figuratively - and confining the fight to a manageable radius. (Also suppressing the news but that's an entirely different battle.)

Also combatting an higher than anticipated level of chaos among our own. Confusion and indecision. Infuriating.

Should be finished here by the end of the day, however. Daylight ought to enable us to put things to rest.

To-day's docket reminded one of the tireless efforts MLE undertake for the well-being of the Protectorate's subjects.

Three theft cases; two accusations of slander; a blood-traitor and collaborator; and of course, sentencing for the remains of the smuggling ring apprehended by MLE's own Aurors nearly two weeks ago.

It's truly a comfort to know that no matter who is heading the Department, Our Lord's Enforcers remain steadfast to their duty.

Luckily it was a short session, if an eventful one, which provided ample opportunity to pay long overdue visits to several colleagues at the Ministry.

Barty, heard your division had an eventful evening last night. If you are not working the festival at the week-end, you must join us and tell us all about it.
alt_lucius: (Crap)
Bellatrix, you've got Braithewaite to consent?

I've called Weasley in to work on getting the heads of the divisions so you can speak to them. Should he bring them to my house in St James or would you rather another location?

Plan to have him summon these:

Gauge
Brundage
Penderyn
Sawers-Cumming
Manningham
Wright
Mustinal
Craddock
Tally

Who else do you need on-board? And in what order? Not too familiar with who's in Mulciber's corner of late.

Will check with Ned to see how Sarah and Bettina are reacting.
alt_lucius: (TopBox)
Preparation for Freedom Day has consumed most of the week and anticipate will dominate next week's agenda as well.

The celebrations this year ought to call to mind those of the Protectorate's fifth anniversary, including a showcase of concerts in the Protector's Park and a series of demonstrations of skill - under controlled conditions only - highlighting the accomplishments of Our Lord's glorious realm. A final concert on the eve of the 31st will culminate in Our Lord's presentation to the winners of an essay contest from the village schools, and of course the traditional fireworks.

Once those duties have been discharged, our private holiday arrangements have also been made and we shall proceed for a much-needed rest of our own, before Draco and Harry leave for their CCF programme in August.

Summer is, as always, a somewhat slower time with so many taking holidays but we can take comfort in the knowledge that the newest Director of Protectorate Affairs recognises no such boundary: The necessary business of the nation takes precedence over all other considerations for him!
alt_lucius: (Assessing)
It is a singular curiosity that although they have no current obligations to the Young Protectors' League or (as yet) the Cadet Force, we see almost less of Draco and Harry this summer than years past. All to be expected: Given a summer to fly free, as it were, what young men would not indulge their social predilections?

Nonetheless, it is a pleasure to enjoy pursuits together, such as running the course at the Elysian and the Ouroboros and taking refreshment afterward. It is most gratifying to see them interact with witches and wizards on equal footing, now they are nearly grown. One cannot help be proud of the way in which they conduct themselves and the company they attract.

We have been particularly glad that the weather is so fine - or so they tell us, when they explain that their long-distance flights are a clever method to escape this heat!

The air of Town, however, wants changing this time of year, so we do plan a holiday, if we can manage it. Narcissa favours the west again, perhaps Cornwall. We still have the brigantine which wants a sea holiday, so that is well-suited to her wishes. We may teach the boys a thing or two about sailing.

That is, assuming that the Ministry and affairs of state permit any time at all out of Town. Have no wish to send them alone but that may become necessary, given days like this one.

Commerce committee ran over-long; this business of the black markets getting out of hand. Unsure what, if anything, Yaxley is even doing to control the rise of prices or the disappearance of particular delicacies. The lack of certain products even disrupted our niece's birthday supper. Most intolerable.

Luncheon with Crispin, as well - and discussion of his options at the Ministry. Naturally his well-deserved induction into Our Lord's Council provides him any number of choices; he has merely to determine where his interests lie.

Once back, was detained by an interminable matter at Rookwood's behest. Tosha, will call on you to-morrow if you are at home, to discuss that trifling business! Should interest you to no end.

Speaking of seeing you, Toshenka, Narcissa hopes you and Barty will join us at the week-end at the Manor.
alt_lucius: (Wheedle)
Ms Lamont:

Hope you enjoyed dinner yester-day as much as I did. If you were even half as pleased, it would have been time well spent.

Occurs to me that we might be well-served to set a regular interval during which you may deliver reports on your findings within Protectorate Affairs. Am sure you agree that a large number of private messages between us might pique Mulciber's interest and put you at greater risk, or interfere with your ability to conduct your primary objectives within the department.

As a proposal for at least one meeting, you expressed a desire to test the fitness course at the Elysian. Although it is not as secure a place to meet as my private town house, we would be able to speak there with relative assurance of confidentiality. One cautions that it would be impractical to make that a regular occurrence, particularly as both Mulcibers also have access to that establishment. The same, unfortunately, could be said for the Ouroboros: While it would be a simple matter to arrange for you to run the course as a guest, it would be foolish to think Mulciber would not discover a standing appointment for that purpose.

Alternatively, judging from your reaction to the meal, one might venture to suggest that a luncheon or tea might be enough to tempt you. There are a number of options if that were to be the solution.

I shall, of course, speak again with Auror Gauge to ensure that he means for your continued co-operation, so that your absence from the office during such periods will meet with no disapproval.

If you are willing to continue, that is. You are, naturally, ideally positioned for the reconnaissance required - but if it has become ... distasteful to you, no one would wish you to engage in activities you might later regret.

Know that should you decline, no further explanation is necessary and no repercussions, professional or otherwise, would befall you. In that case, only I should suffer a disappointment which, no doubt, I should regret very much.

Hoping therefore that you look upon this offer with favour, I remain,

Your humble servant,

Lucius Malfoy
alt_lucius: (BreckGirl)
Ms Lamont,

Wondered if you have made any progress in the investigation to which you were assigned yester-day. If you could be so kind as to remit your discoveries directly to myself or Auror Crouch, copied to Auror Gauge, of course, that would be appropriate in this case. You may be aware that I do, on occasion, work with MLE as a consulting member of the Council, so you need have no fear that you are violating protocol to report outside your chain of command.

Auror Crouch spoke highly (for him) of your abilities. I trust we shall not be disappointed. Thus far, your services have been most satisfactory. Pray continue with similar diligence and - I believe the word Barty used was 'creativity' - and there should be no cause for concern.

In fact ... I wish to thank you for the spirit with which you assisted to bring the journals under MLE so swiftly. I realise that you were given little choice in the request by your superior; however, one may choose to serve at the minimum required or one may go beyond what is asked. Do not take that as an insult: Suspect you are hardly the type who would or could shirk your duty, or Barty would not have praised you even remotely. It is only by way of observing that not all persons put in your position yester-day would have thrown themselves into the task with full commitment.

As I said, I would welcome the opportunity to thank you, as well as to receive further reports. Might you be interested in tea, either Wednesday or Friday this week? I can promise you better fare than the Ministry canteen, though that is perhaps too easy a promise to make.

Do let me know and send along any other information you have acquired regarding the charges against Massopust, Plympton and the others under arrest.

Yours in service to the Protectorate,

Lucius S. Malfoy, &c.
alt_lucius: (Angry)
What have we said about not interrupting when I am in Court?

Luckily, had a moment when I could step away - only to find there were also urgent messages from Crispin, Ned and Ptolemy.

What the hell's going on?
alt_lucius: (Precious....)
Been meaning to tell you both: believe Thursday went well. Cadmus seemed to understand the concerns and agreed his brother can be impulsive. He had a number of disparaging remarks regarding the way Corax has behaved this week. 'An erumpent with an extra horn exploding' was how he put it.

Discussed the many times Corax made himself a nuisance in school - and Cadmus himself related a few anecdotes from the year following their brother Julius' death, when he and Corax nearly came to wands-point over disagreements regarding the estate.

We ended with his assurance that he can influence Corax to see reason.

Now, regarding the activities in DoM - Augustus claims the apparatus remains dismantled. However, during our brief conversation he attempted to converse with me in Czech and at least once called me Abraxas. Furthermore he was not aware that Croaker and Morlock have applied for another influx of funds.

It does not seem possible for one who specialised in memory magics to be losing his faculties so rapidly but then, Gus is nearly, what? nearly ninety?

The best of us do deteriorate, unfortunately. Worst is that there is no one we may trust to replace him at present. Unless either of you have a thought on the matter.
alt_lucius: (Assessing)
Settling in, are you?

It appears you went ahead and selected the eldest Weasley.

Any observations so far? Was in the building earlier to meet Fudge but had no time to stop up and welcome you in person.

Perhaps next Thursday you'd care to go to lunch? Am sure you will have questions about certain of Dominic's policies and ongoing projects that affected other departments. Would be pleased to provide any insight, from a level your Weasley would have no way of knowing.

We could invite Stephen, as well, so he can tell you anything you need to know about your new - Senior Adjutant, is it? Creative title. Trust he understands it means whatever you need it to mean at any given moment?

Not sure how he'll do under that sort of ... variability in his scope of duties. The third brother has an altogether different temperament but then you must have seen something you liked about this one.
alt_lucius: (1000YdStare)
Heads-up.

Corax Mulciber instructed by Our Lord to oversee Protectorate Affairs.

Likely he's enlisting Bill Weasley as aide. That could work to advantage; Weasley will have a window to their movements.

Still. Not sure of the full implications of this development.

Crispin, alert Rookwood if you will - quietly. Barty, shall arrange lunch or drinks alone with Cadmus and Ari sometime this week. See what you can learn from Yaxley.
alt_lucius: (Annoyed)
First priority: Permanent staff for Private Message monitoring. No use giving anyone else a chance to infiltrate. Work with Crispin and Pennifold. Leave Massopust to Crispin for now.

Trust you now understand why it was not an opportune time to press for entry. What happened to Higgs could have happened to you.

After-noon to-day is far too busy; reschedule half the appointments. Leave at least 30 minutes between each.

Have list of additional meetings needed in the next week. Keep 30-min intervals through Wednesday.

Do not bring tea this morning. Send elf.
alt_lucius: (BreckGirl)
Dominic,

Have time for you within the next seven minutes (prior to 6 pm, in other words). Engaged at six o'clock.

Am using Bella's office for the moment. Come there at once to tell me whatever your urgent news was.
