Private Message to Selwyn and Yaxley

Mulciber, Rookwood and Gibbon have each contacted me in the last twenty minutes.

Is it true you saw it happen?

And right outside the Ouroboros?!

Rookwood thinks we ought to call a meet. Not sure it's wise if - if He has no cause to summon us.

Yes.

And yes.

I was coming out of the Ouroboros as he apparated in. The assassin must have been waiting behind the shrubbery, probably with an invisibility cloak given that none of us saw him. He used a portkey to remove himself the instant the deed was done.

I've been waiting for a summons from Him but so far it's just been a lot of people from MLE. Yaxley was just inside the Ouroboros, he came when he heard me call out. I think I've repeated what I saw to at least a dozen people by now, even though what I saw wasn't much.

As for a meet, I'm at His disposal first, then MLE's, at present.

I've been wondering for the last half hour if Glendower might have been in on it. Yaxley, I do hope when you take evidence from him you'll have one of the Aurors trained in Legilimency close by -- that, or veritaserum. The assassin must have been waiting for a good long time without being discovered.

Yaxley does think they were after Barty, because the assassin seems to have lurked there for a while, and if he merely wanted to slay Council Members he (or she, I suppose, I didn't get much of a look at the murderer) wouldn't have had to wait so long.

I've no idea what Barty was up to, but surely Yaxley does?

I'd have no fear about Glendower springing a leak to the press. I'm not sure how long they'll be able to keep this hushed up, though. Everyone who was at the Ouroboros knows.

I should add, based on when people arrived the assassin could have taken down either Pummel or Goyle, had he merely wanted to slay Council Members.

If it was Dogstar -- which I'm not saying it was, I have no idea -- they did suggest some months back that they considered Barty and 'Lestrange' (they didn't say which Lestrange they meant; I'd rather guess your sister-in-law, personally) among their top targets. So perhaps they were there for the first sufficiently big fish to come along. I've no idea if they'd have settled for me, if I'd come out a half minute earlier than I did. It's ...unsettling. To say the least.

I didn't get a look at his wand. He was killed just as he arrived, no chance to draw his wand or defend himself in any way. I assume Yaxley's taken a look at it, you might owl him since he's probably a bit too distracted to reply by journal.

I saw the body, after. He was -- come to think of it, I didn't see his wand-holster. Perhaps he dressed in rather a hurry.

As far as statements go, I've got nothing to work with until MLE finishes at least their preliminary work.

There's nothing quite as awkward as officially telling people one thing, only to have to un-tell them a day later. We don't want to suggest it was Dogstar only to have it turn out to be those miserable lunatics from Ireland.
