Good to see you both this after-noon. Must admit the social hour before and following did put our other tasks behind, a bit, and returning from those, naturally, found the day's correspondence grown to mountainous proportion. Still have a personal note or two if to-morrow is not to begin already behind.

Trust you both found to-day's (yesterday's, one should say!) educational presentation edifying. Harry looked a bit tense, during the bout. Draco, is he all right? Glad to see you appreciated the display for all it was, and led the others in a properly jovial, but respectful, light.

Antonin Nikolaevich tells me you are both showing great promise, already. Not surprising, but good to hear his professional assessment, nonetheless.

He has his eye on a few others, as well, who were much more ... unexpected. But that is his way.

Be careful, however: He is incorrigible. If you let him he shall ply you with all manner of temptations, suited to your particular interests, in order to bend you to his will. No doubt soon enough he shall supplant even your favourite professors as your tutor of choice.

Speaking of favourites, did not have much of a chance to speak to either of you privately. Wished to ask you: How has the CCF programme been thus far, under Madam Umbridge? (Be honest, both of you; should expect you both might feel any positive comments are disloyal to its previous mentor. Have no fear of your opinions generating unwanted repercussions.)

Well. It is late. Though you shall doubtless not see this before morning, should observe brevity and proceed through my other notes, in order to sleep, as well.

Son,

Trust you have arrived safely and find the accommodations adequate, considering the purpose of the exercises. No doubt you are considerably occupied with training so we do not expect to hear from you too often over the coming weeks.

However, in light of our conversation this past week, did wish to remind you to report any observations you make regarding FS or his influence in the programme. Particularly if you perceive he and DU are combining their efforts in any troublesome way.

Regardless, do enjoy the activities - to the extent possible, of course.

Your mother sends her love and wishes me to ask you to take care of yourself (and I do not believe she means to confine the instruction to wearing dry socks or eating sensibly). Also that she has undertaken the preparations for our holiday, according to your requests. For my part, rest assured you understand the risks involved and shall neither disappoint nor endanger yourself, so that we may have you safe home again on your return.

Doubt there shall be much time during Freedom Day for any private conference but, should you have reason to need it, am confident we may seize the opportunity after the formalities have been observed. Look forward to seeing you in any case, and until then I remain,

Pansy,

Have had occasion to glimpse some of the plans for the exercises of the next fortnight.

Sure you realise there will be moments that will be ... difficult for you. Trust you will be able to soldier through those incidents and maintain your composure.

Rest assured that none of the accounts contain inappropriate or contradictory information, and nothing that ought to give you any cause to worry. Only that, naturally, being in the place and learning the full history of the battles will perforce bring insight, stir emotions, which are more easily suppressed elsewhere.

Keep your head and you'll be fine. Remember that your father died a hero, regardless of the wand that brought him low. And remember that ultimately, that wand has been stilled, as well: Proof that betrayal always pays its price, in the end.

Perhaps I have not said so recently, but I've been ... proud of the way you have comported yourself this year, in the face of ample provocation. Hope you shall continue to show your classmates and all who would scrutinise your behaviour that you have matured and are beginning to grow into a witch who exemplifies the qualities of breeding and industry which are to be applauded in Our Lord's society.

And there will be those who are watching your moves, along with Draco's, Harry's, &c, so do be careful, my dear. But be sure that amidst the gravity of the training grounds, you also remember to have fun.

We are all looking forward to Freedom Day, when as you are no doubt learning, we shall all see the combined skill of the CCF. Until then, I remain as ever, your loving god-father,
